Watch: The Last Remnant teaser

Square-Enix released a new video of The Last Remnant, an RPG “for the world”. After seeing it I was immediately reminded of Dynasty Warriors and I’m not sure if that is a good thing. Drakengard was Square-Enix’s take on that genre and it turned out decent, not great. However, this is supposed to be a RPG and not a hack n’ slash game. The brief screens of combat show what appears to be turn orders on the left hand side if the screen. Perhaps The Last Remnant is Dynasty Warriors cross Final Fantasy Tactics.

What are your thoughts after seeing footage of Square-Enix’s new project?

Looks promising. I didn’t see enough of the battle system, so I can’t make any opinions about it. I do like the character designs more than FF12. Although, Rush’s face looks too generic too me, but meh. That blond dudes eyepatch was cool, I thought it was summoning circle coming out of it, but I’m not sure. That summoning in the end looked….strange. If they can have Bahumut come crab the enemies off the field ala LOTR’s fell beasts, that would be soo cool.

Who know who the eye-patch guy reminds me of, Bart from Xenogears :)

I dunno, Lost Odyssey has the main character going against a massive army of armored knights and machinaries on his own at the beginning as well. Would get this on the PS3 if they’re on both platforms.

I think FF XII has some of the most uninteresting char design (except Balthier), even though I like those of Tactics and Vagrant Story by Yoshida Akihiko.
