Xbox 360 Elite coming to Japan at a cheaper price

Xbox 360 Elite coming to Japan at a cheaper priceThe Xbox 360 Elite has been out in North America for a few months with a price tag of $480. On October 11th, it arrives in Japan with a price tag of 47,800 yen ($389). The price difference makes the Elite about the same price as the 20 GB Xbox 360 Pro outside of Japan. Ouch. But the USA does have the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, which makes good use of the 120 GB hard drive. Japan along with the rest of the world doesn’t have much content to fill it up with besides demos and high definition Halo 3 trailers.

Will this version of the 360 matter to those in Japan that simply don’t care about the Xbox?

The 360 Elite won’t make much of a difference in the long scale of things in Japan. It’s going to take a lot more than a simple console reversion to market the Xbox overseas. An RPG like Blue Dragon is a good start, but not enough to completely win anyone over.

The only thing that’s got me kind of steamed is that Microsoft opted to price the Elite at a cheaper price than it is in America, although they can afford to do so with the 360 basically flopping in retail in Japan.

Yeah, unfortunately the 360 is running at a distant third in Jpn, PS3′s sales is behind the Wii by a long shot and 360 has it even worse. They just need to crank out all the JRPGs they can get, like Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata and make them stay exclusive. Frankly I prefer the white color and HDD is upgradable, and I heard HDMI doesn’t make much of a difference compared to component, but it’s nice to have.
