Just what is Glory Days 2?

Just what is Glory Days 2?Last week we ran some screenshots from Glory Days 2, which led to a barrage of questions like what is it? Is it like Advance Wars? Nope.

Glory Days 2 is more like a mixture of a 2D flight simulator and a real time strategy game. In the first mission you take control of a helicopter where the goal is to airlift civilians from the battlefield to safety. The helicopter is controlled with the stylus and you can shoot the chopper’s machine gun by pressing the up on the D pad. When you see civilians (identified by blue shirts) frantically running to the right you land the helicopter, pick them up and fly them back to the helicopter launch pad. While you’re busy being a shuttle two armies are blowing each other to bits. Tanks and soldiers automatically march to the left side of the screen where they meet a computer controlled army of tanks and troops. The war acts as a background distraction in the early missions because your focus isn’t bombing tanks by pressing down on the D-pad, its rescuing civilians.

The second mission gives you a fighter jet to fly and you have to drop bombs on enemy bunkers. Blowing up the bunkers relieves them from enemy army control, but if you don’t take out the troops they fall right back into the enemy’s hands. Things get slightly more complicated, but it doesn’t involve much more than quickly flying back to the launch pad. The third mission is where things get a little more strategic, you have to build troops to take control of bunkers. When you hold down the R button a touch screen menu pops up and you can make soldiers to load up in your chopper. The key is to drop them in groups near bunkers so they take control of the bunker and protect them by mounting machine guns.

Also Glory Days 1 does exist, but under a different name. Back on the Game Boy Advance Super Army War came out care of Atlus and Glory Days 2 is the sequel to it.

So that’s why I could never find the first Glory Days when I searched for it…it’s actually called Super Army War.

Sounds very much like a combination of Choplifter and Rescue Raiders (old Apple II games, originally)

The GBA game is called Glory Days in PAL territories. Atlus must’ve though the US market needs something… simplier.

And yes, it’s a ehanced version of Choplifter and the game’s great.

@Supa – Thanks for clearing up the release date. I don’t have the glasses yet, all I have is the preview ROM so I can’t try that out.
