I’m not entirely Gundam crazy, but after seeing a gameplay video of Mobile Suit Gundam: MS Sensen 0079 it has my attention. The clip reminds me of one of my favorite arcade games, Virtual On, with motion control. But I imagine it will be a more visceral experience than moving joysticks since you are mimicking actions like slashing a beam saber with remote and you have to manually aim each of your shots light-gun style. The concept looks solid and this is a prime example of a way to use the Wii remote controls to create a new experience rather than using controller shakes to replace button presses.
Let's hope Namco Bandai brings this outside of Japan soon!
This looks like a good Gundam game indeed. Mano a Mano is still the way to fight, most likely more fun than slashing at dozens of MSs in Gundam Musou.
It’s looking mighty impressive, though I’ve yet to see any mech game that’s more fun than Steel Battalion.
wildweasel: And by fun, you mean ‘incredibly time-consuming and nit-picky’, right?
Seriously, I only spent marginally less time learning to drive a mech in S.B. than it took to learn how to drive an M1A1… and that had the added benefit that the Army was footing all the bills!
Regarding MS Sensen, it looks fantastic and I’m totally going to import this bad boy, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to take killing guy after guy and having them *all* cough out individualized last words: “I wanted to see the sky… one more tiAAAAA”, “I’m not ready to diERK “, “Gaaaaaaaaa”… it could get to be a little much.

I too am hoping for a US release. If there is any genre that’s never been shy about finding new and interesting ways to utilize a controller, it’s the mech genre. We’ve seen plenty of cool ways to utilize a traditional controller in mech games like Armored Core, Zone of the Enders, and Steambot Chronicles, so I’m pretty excited to what crazy ideas are going to stem from the Wii’s capabilities.
