First play with Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations

By Spencer . August 22, 2007 . 3:13am

pw3.jpgI got my copy of the third game in the Phoenix Wright series and blasted through the first case. Similar to Infernal Affairs III, Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations jumps between the past and the future of the series. In the first case you play as Mia Fey, Phoenix’s mentor, when she was a rookie defense attorney with a 0-1 record. The defendant in the case is none other than Phoenix! He is on trial for murdering Doug Swallow, a pharmacy student at Ivy University. The connection between him and Doug is Dahlia Hawthorne. For eight months she has been Phoenix’s girlfriend and before that she was with Doug. I don’t want to spoil the case, but sound out Dahlia’s name. Capcom is at it again with another clever pun.

After you beat the first case, you get to play Phoenix again. This time the case doesn’t have to deal with murder. Phoenix’s goal is to track down a stolen artifact on display at Lords & Taylor Lordily Tailor hat is on loan from the Fey family. If you played the second game you will recognize the heirloom instantly since it played a key role in one of the episodes. Also you get to see Adrian Andrews from the first second Phoenix Wright game who is in charge of security for the event. There are new characters too notable “Ace Detective” Luke Atmey who looks like a skinny version of the Penguin and Mask DeMasque who likes to steal expensive works of art.

More to come after the second case…

Lucky SOB, when did you get it? Play-Asia shipped mine 2 days ago.

  • ryne11

    I can’t wait

    “Luke Atmey”, too obvious

  • So, please confirm: are you playing the japanese version? If so does it come with english text?

So, please confirm: are you playing the japanese version? If so does it come with english text?

It’s been confirmed for a while now. Just go to an import site like Play-Asia and it will tell you.

  • @Kolbe – Yeah it’s the Japanese version, it has a full English option.

@the_importer – heh. I’m sure yours is on its way!

Gyakuten Saiban is bar none my favorite series on the DS, and I await every release eagerly.

    Also, “Infernal Affairs,” not “Internal.”

  • Grossberg: “Mia, you made our client cry!”
Mia: “I don’t care. That “P” on his chest doesn’t mean Phoenix anyways.”

Mia:(Talking about Phoenix’s girlfriend Dahlia and all the attention she’s getting from Payne and the Judge) “I guess we know whose milkshake brings all the boys to the yard”

  • @Andy – Ack! You’re right, thanks for the correction.

@MidnightScott – I guess I’m not the only one playing it then!

Eagerly awaiting for my copy as well, but I’d be playing thru the Jpn ver. first before trying it in Eng. later.

Correction: Adrian was from the second game not the first.
And the store’s name is Lordily Tailor, an obvious pun on the name you put down

  • Drkirby

Adrian Andrews shows up in the last case of the 2ed game, not in the first game. She is
    Matt Engarde’s manager.

Also, I am loving the game. The 2ed case is playing out great so far.

  • @king tatsuya & Dr. Kirby – you guys are right! See what happens when writing at 3AM lots of mix ups. Thanks for the corrections, I’m updating the article now.

  • I have a flash device, it’s how I’m playing it. However, I stopped playing it. I’m gonna buy it when it comes out in the US next month. I want Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney to be released!

  • Aoshi00

Is that what the fourth game is known as in Eng., Apollo Justice? Despite the several innovation implemented, after playing thru Gyakuten Saiban 4, it just wasn’t the same w/o Phoenix being the lead (he’s still around). Plus they didn’t even mention a word about what happened to the rest of the cast.. Unfortunately the new main character Odoroki Housuke has a rather weak presence, most fans in Japan are hoping for Phoenix to take back the lead in 5 since that’s sort of hinted at the end.

I was hoping my copy would arrive tonight, still no sign :(…
