Echo Night and Ape Escape head to the Playstation store

athena.jpgIt’s the end of the month and that means Japan gets a new set of PsOne downloadable games. This month they get Pachinko compilations, dating sims and a high school horror game from Banpresto. The notable addition on this list is Athena: Awakening from the ordinary life, where you delve into the life of the King of Fighters star as a high school student. While most of these games are PSP and PS3 compatible, two of them are Playstation 3 only: Ape Escape and Sony’s cooking game Ore no Ryori. It’s obvious why Ape Escape only works on your PS3 Sony wants you to buy the PSP port, Sarugetchu P (i.e. Ape Escape: On the Loose). But why is Ore no Ryori PS3 only? Is Sony planning something after seeing Cooking Mama?

Edit: Nah. It's just that Ore no Ryori and Ape Escape require two analog sticks!

Here are the PsOne re-releases for this month:

Athena: Awakening from the ordinary life

Prismaticallization

Sanyo Pachinko Paradise 5

Sanyo Pachinko Paradise DX

Memorial Series: Sunsoft Vol.2

Crash Bandicoot 2

Wipeout

Sonic Wings Special

The Conveni 2

Levi Says:

Didn’t Ore no Ryori require both analog sticks for at least some of the activities? That’d make it a bit tough to play on the PSP. Of course, I could be mistaken here. It’s been forever since I’ve played Ore no Ryori.

Spencer Says:

@Levi - AH! You’re absolutely right!! Ape Escape and Ore no Ryori are dual shock only games so they would have to be translated down to work with the PSP. That makes perfect sense. Hmm that’s interesting though, I wonder what happens when more dual analog stick games come out.

JeremyR Says:

It would be nice if SCEA started releasing more of these - I think they have 13 total. Or had a way to buy them without using a PS3 (until then, it’s largely a moot point).
