See the screenshot above? The guy on the left is Edge and the girl on the right is Reimi and they are the main characters of Star Ocean 4. During Star Ocean 4 you get to fly around the universe with Edge in an intergalactic spaceship, which should open up new ways to develop the plotline. The feature I’m most excited for is the battle system is a revised version of Star Ocean 3’s system with four player support. Awesome! After all the battle system in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time was the glue that held the game together.
Still there is no word on which console or consoles Star Ocean 4 would be going to, but Tri-Ace is working with the Xbox 360 hardware on Infinite Undiscovery…
Again, thanks to Jeff L. for pointing us to all of the Star Ocean scans today!
The battle system in Star Ocean 3 was horrendous! I hope they’re doing more than simply adding 4 player support (although that may improve battles as well). I had to quit playing SO3 because I couldn’t stomach anymore wandering around, fighting lizardmen. If the story were compelling at all (up to the point I quit; I don’t know about overall), maybe I could have dealt with it.
I’m pretty “meh” about the whole series after that. I likely won’t buy it no matter what system it’s on.
I loved Star Ocean 2 and 3 to death. That’s why I had to send this in ASAP, thanks for the extra details. Also THIS is the game that would make me buy a next-gen console, regardless of reviews.
Sounds pretty interesting. I wish more RPGs would incorporate Skies of Arcadia’s “world map” exploration system. It’d work well with a game like Star Ocean. Being able to freely fly a ship to any destination you want..

I hope that Tri-Ace remembers that there’s a “Star” in “Star Ocean” and doesn’t stick you on a backwater planet where they just recently invented cannons like they did in III.
