Super Mario Galaxy heads to Japan first

By Spencer . September 6, 2007 . 12:11pm

smgalaxy.jpgBack at E3 Nintendo announced North America would see Super Mario Galaxy on November 12. Japan gets it on November 1, less than two weeks before North America gets it. Not really a huge deal, but if you’re in Japan you get to enjoy Super Mario Galaxy a few days before the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, Europe does not have a concrete release date for Super Mario Galaxy yet, all they have a November release window. And Japan doesn’t have a date for Super Smash Brothers: Brawl.

Most likely, this is Nintendo’s way to make up for releasing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in America first (although the Metroid series in general has always been more popular here) through giving Japan Super Mario Galaxy first. Not a bad trade off I’d say, as thankfully the release dates aren’t very far away. In all honestly, I’m glad Nintendo is taking an extra incentive to release their games across the globe not so far apart, it makes the waiting period of each title less of a hassle.

Unfortunately, Europe is once again shafted as far as release dates are concerned. They’re probably used to this predicament by now, but that certainly doesn’t make the wait any less painful.

  • @Veilknight – Agreed. Hopefully Super Mario Galaxy hits Europe in the same month, it’s almost like a worldwide release then. Compared to when it would take months, sometimes years before a game came out localization is getting much faster. Also we got Super Paper Mario first!
