Holy Smokes! Catherine’s got picked!

Congrats, Cat!

jinn667 Says:

holy shiznit andi p.’s in the semi’s?!…not surprising

Pigslayer Says:

As a recent fan of this site, I expected a lot more from the final picks. I have to say that I’m highly disappointed in a few of the drawings selected…some of them seem very uninspired and/or look incomplete. I’m not sure what the selection process entailed, but I definitely wouldn’t enter a future contest. I think I’m done with this site.

Pigslayer Says:

Also, I think that we should be able to see all the other entries that weren’t selected for the semi-finals to see if there were any others that the fans would think are way better than what was selected.

Someone Says:

I agree with Pigslayer. Some of the work is great, but others are very mediocre and just don’t fit in. I won’t be entering anything from here again either. Oh well.

Good luck to those who got through.

Spencer Says:

@Pigslayer and “Someone” - I’m sorry you feel that way, but a lot of the entries weren’t even related to Megaman. The whole thing is subjective right. This is exactly why I’ve been more and more reluctant to run contest on Siliconera. For each person that wins dozens more complain.

Someone Says:

Well, I guess that’s your taste. Some of what I see doesn’t look Mega Man Master Robot related at all, but ok.

I really could care less about winning to be honest. I just felt that what actually got passed through is just funny.

Some are good though. Not saying all are absolute horrid crap or anything. I like the EmotiMan best. Soundman comes a close second. The rest is a bit iffy to me. I didnt see all the entries so I cannot say anything about what had nothing to do with Megaman in that aspect.

As I said before, best of luck to those who went through.

Jesse Says:

Emotiman all the way. It is the only one that has fresh idea yet fits in with classic Megaman feel.

Roli Says:

@ Pigslayer,

It is all merely subjective to what both Spencer and RawMeatCowboy found to be appealing to their senses, not your senses. It’s a shame you base your judgment of not wanting to frequent this site anymore on something so trivial as a contest.

Beggars can’t be choosers.

Andaryu Says:

I like all the entries! I think everyone did a great job, and its your contests that keep me coming back for more Spenser! :)

Spencer Says:

@ Someone- thanks for understanding. :) I don’t know what RawMeatCowboy considered in his judging, but after I saw his picks I wanted to get something that amused me or made me laugh in a good way.

I hope you won’t be discouraged from entering other contests though. This is our first time running an art attack and it’s been a learning process for all of us.

Louise Says:

I picked Emotiman just for pure genius. I couldn’t help but laugh at Emotiman. Great idea and I love the pictures of all his “attacks”. As for presentation, I like how Tikiman looked the best.

Someone Says:

I wish I had more time to work on my entry, but that’s life. I learned of the contest last minute and worked all night in doing it.

People should understand that certain things get chosen over others.

All I can do is try again next time..

Spencer Says:

@Someone - always try again :) and check back for more contests. I’ll give you (and the world?) a hint, I’m going to be putting up something signed from my stash as a prize sometime in the future… so look forward to it.

Tron Says:

Cat’s is the only one that shows attacks and a stage. You got to give her some credit for that.

Plus, I didn’t think this was an art contest. It’s a design contest, right? All the entries I see here could very well be in a Mega Man game based on design alone. Just look as Sword-Man, or Top-Man, or Yamoto-Man. If they made it to real Mega Man games, any of these guys could.

TacoBeaver Says:

cmon the only 3 here that worth it is the purple one, cross edge ,and the sound thingy one

(watch sanjaya anthem on youtube)

TacoBeaver Says:

make one of naruto, make a ninja, that would be awesome

Pike Says:

One vote for Tikiman. He looks like what his name is, a Tikiman.

Tron Says:

I think Cat intended Emoti-Man to be in the NES Mega Man series, and kept him simple for those reasons. If you look at the original 6 Mega Man bosses (plus Heat-Man), at the top of this thread, you’ll see that they were all pretty simple.

Andaryu Says:

I really like the original style of the old-school megaman bosses, but the contest was over just any ’stlye’ of MM boss. My submission was the ZX style, just like how Toxicman.exe was the battle network style.

ZX was definatly my fav series in Megaman O_O

Stuart Says:

Tikiman = Bomb ; Emoti-Man = gay

Tron Says:

Stuart, bombs are bad. They kill people.

Gays are good. At least, they are sometimes, just like any one else

So, you like Emoti-Man sometimes?

Vic Says:

I really like Tikiman… he actually seems like a character that can do some damage….

american cheese Says:

EMOTI-MAN…SIMPLY TELLS IT ALL. PERFECT TIMING.

Cate918 Says:

Thanks everybody who voted for me and/or had nice things to say! It’s awesome that my design is doing so well against such steep compatition. I wish I could paint like Ms. Leung! If she wants to do a painting of Emoti-Man some day, that would really be awesome!

Come to think of it, I know I can do better for a drawing of Emoti-Man. I think I’ll work of one tonight and try to post it tommorow.

Thanks again everyone for your kind words, and votes!

Fronz Says:

Emoti-man is really clever, and ToxixMan is awesome as well.

linda Says:

interesting all—but emoti man won my heart.

JIll Says:

I vote for Emoti-man

JIll Says:

I vote for Emoti-man. Good luck !!!

Dianne Says:

Emoti-man is very clever. It has my vote.

MEK Says:

Andrew D. - ToxicMan EXE I’d say!

Miri Says:

ToxicMan! =3

Cate918 Says:

ToxicMan is pretty awesome.

I helped my little cousin make up Poison Man and enter him into this contest. He was just like Toxic Man, except he had a face, and none of the crazy proportions. His idea obviously didn’t get picked.

Boy is he jealous of Andrew D!

kai lyn Says:

ToxicMan EXE by none other than Andrew D.!!!!

Cate918 Says:

Oh, and I should have give you guys the description of Emoti-Man, his moves and his stage a long time ago. Sorry!

Here goes.

Emoti-Man is robot boss based around the idea of emoticons and web abreviations. Love them or hate them, they are a big part of todays culture. So if you love them, you’ll love Emoti-Man. If you hate them, then you’ll love to blast him.

His first move is the LOL. It’s basicly like a shotgun blast of electric laughter. It’s short range, but fires at a wide angle so Mega Man can’t jump over it.

The second move is the IDK. It’s also has a short range and a wide angle, but it fires up. If it hits Mega Man, he will temporarily forget what ever weapon he was using.

The third move is the I

Cate918 Says:

sorry, got cut off…

The third move is the I

Cate918 Says:

cut off again. Sorry! I give up. Hearts.. Cat.

Loquatz Says:

Emoti-Man I

Denise Gutowski Says:

Nise says i vote for Emoti-Man

Erich Says:

Tiki Man!!!

joanna Says:

i love emoti-man:-) way to go, Cat!

Lee Svenson Says:

Emoti-Man . . . you rock!!~

Gerald Says:

Toxic-Man suggests rigidity and passivity; the lower stump-like extremities give the feeling of unbalance and vulnerability. Tiki-Man is colorful, but flat/unidimensional. The others are simply representations of already existing comics characters. My vote goes to Emoti-Man who is the most original, dynamic, artistic, clever, and lively of them all.

s0lesurviv0r Says:

Emoti-Man!

oneChikkenGiven Says:

EmotiMAN is the man for any debaucle!
Love him :) !

AWD! Says:

Dang it.. and I really wanted that shirt…
Well congrats Emoti-Man

Cat918 Says:

Thanks AWD. Your design is totally awesome. And you haven’t lost yet. This is the interent after all. Anything can happen. :)

Cat918 Says:

Did I win?

AWD! Says:

of course you did, stop rubbing it in! *grumbles*
;)

Cate918 Says:

I haven’t gotten an official confirmation yet.

I’m nervous!

Cate918 Says:

Confirmation is here! I did in fact win!

WOO HOO!

Thanks Siliconera for running this great contest! And thanks to everyone who voted. Compatition was tough. Each entry was really unique and interesting, with it’s own definitive strengths over the others. Lucky Man is like nothing ever seen in a Mega Man game, totally original with a detailed back story and explination of abilities. Sound Man is a perfect boss for the old NES Mega Man games, as Cross Edge would be perfect for the Zero series. Tiki Man would be great in the more detailed and colorful Mega Man 7 and MM 8, and Toxic Man EXE is by far on of the coolest Battle Network bosses I’ve ever seen. If I worked for Capcom, I’d hire ADW in a second.

I really think all the entries were great, and am privlidged just to be a part of this fine institution.

I love you all. Good night!

Sylvia Says:

Though I admit I’m a bit diappointed, I say congrats to Emotiman and Toxicman.

Sylvia Says:

Though I admit I’m a bit disappointed, I say congrats to Emotiman and Toxicman.

Andaryu Says:

Congrats Catherine! I had fun doing this as well, and I’m really looking forward to more of Siliconera’s contests!

^_^ You better take plenty of pictures of your awesome amazing prize now!

Cate918 Says:

As soon as my prize comes in, I’ll pose with it and send in pics.

:)

Glitcher Says:

I can’t believe how bad the semi-finalists are, though I think it has something to do with the contest’s ridiculously short deadline. Less than a week for the news to spread and people to get their submission in? What were they thinking?! About the semi-finalists from top to bottom:

Toxicman.EXE - Really lacks character, given his namesake. This is scary coming from a veteran cartoonist how I know has produced some truly amazing character designs. Plus it bears a dubious resemblance to the Hanmuru Doll from Mega Man Legends.

Tikiman - A nice idea and vivid colouring, but the design is a just too basic. It really needs a bit more thought and effort put into it.

Sound Man - This one could have been great, but it’s a design that really needs to be seen in colour to appreciate. The chest and head have some motifs that are difficult to discern as it is.

Emoti-Man - Oh God! This is the spawn of every user who drowns his forum posts with emoticons, thinking it’s cool. Smilies and shorthand have no place in a Robot Master. Begone!

Lucky Man - It’s Tango. But brown. Next!

Cross Edge - Someone has been playing too many RPGs. Perhaps next time, Andi P should switch games and design a character that actually fits the part in the Mega Man series. The world has enough generic fantasy swordsman as it is.

All in all, while I’m disappointed at the results, I would say Sound Man is the best of the bunch. I feel it has the most potential if Phil G. would spend more time with it and produce a fully inked and coloured version.

Ketsueki Says:

I was extremely dissapointed with the results. Half of the drawings were ridiculously juvenile. Its not based on effort, detail, or originality..instead its popularity. I’d have to agree with “someone” I’m done with this site.

Ketsueki Says:

My apologies, I ment to agree with “pigslayer”.

/☆/ Says:

wow what a complete waste of an artists time.
especially since the way to win is to get all your friends to vote for you. if you take the time to really look at the pictures you can see that cross edge has the most details and he probably put more time into it than most. and he should have won.

Cate918 Says:

Oh, how bitter.

I think over 1500 people voted in this contest, and Emoti-Man got almost one third of those votes.

It’s flattering that you think I have 500 friends, but I don’t have that many. More like 15, which came to about .7%, which wasn’t enough to sway the voting either way.

And Cross Edge is a really cool design, but does having the most detail mean that it should win the “Mega Man Robot Maker” contest?

Detail = better Mega Man boss?

If so, you must not like any of the classic Mega Man games that made the series what it is today.

And Glitcher, I “spawned” Emoti-Man. Do you see me using any emoitcons or web speak?

Emoti-Man is a villian after all. If you hate people who over use web speak, then wouldn’t you want to blow up Emoti-Man?
