Capcom pokes fun at Microsoft and Star Wars

The clever localization staff at Capcom managed to sneak in more pop culture references in Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations. Early on there are some celebrity puns and later you encounter geekier ones. The office where one of the characters works in episode 3 is Blue Screens Inc., an obvious reference to the Blue Screen of Death.

Past the break is a photo of the Star Wars one, but be warned that it sort of contains a spoiler! For everyone that’s played through Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations what’s your favorite pun in Trials and Tribulations?

Onto case 5 now, so good! But I’ve only been playing in Jpn, I did play case 1 and a little of 2 again in Eng. since I was curious what’s the Eng. translation. The detective’s name is “Oshiidake Aiga” (sounding like “I just want some love”), so Luke Atmey was pretty clever.
In fact many name puns and in-jokes for the last two games were carried over w/ care, w/o losing the lightheartedness, kudos to the Capcom translation team.

BTW, Lisa Basil’s Jpn name is “Koike Keiko” in Jpn, same thing if read backward, pretty cool.

Pichi Says:

@ Aoshi00

Its the same thing for Lisa Basil if you read it backwords, really nice localization there!

This is SPARDA.

Good ol’ palindromes. :)

Some of their puns are good, some are cringeworthy, but such is the double-edged sword of PUNishing, so I can’t complain too much. (Although Fransizka was getting on my nerves with her “Foolish X and your foolish Y…”

I just hope they took breaks from all their puncrafting to actually clean up the grammatical errors and typose taht were shotgunned throughout the last game.

Aoshi00 Says:

The “foolish” thing from Franziska (Mei) is in the Jpn dialogue too, I thought that’s pretty funny..

Yeah, it’s unfortunate there are some typos thruout the game, they can really distract from the moment. I wonder why they didn’t have a guy to proofread if so much care has gone into the localization. It’s not like the Eng. option is an afterthought, it’s supposed to be the selling point of the DS remake in Jpn, plus the script will be used in the US version subsequently. Otherwise this would be a perfect copy.

Just curious, did the typos get fixed in the US version?

SomeDude Says:

No, they didn’t fix them. I played the JP version, and my friend played the US. The typos are in both.

Miscellaneous Says:

“Well, we all know whose milkshake bring all the boys to their yard.”

Another pun about Lisa Basil in PH3!
- She looks more like like a “Ghost in a Shell”
