Atari sent over an e-mail to let us know Godzilla Unleashed is going multiplatform. Besides the Wii and DS games a Playstation 2 version is in development, which will come out this fall. If you’re a mega Godzilla fan take note that the PS2 release has exclusive monsters.
A PS2 port is a no brainier since the PS2 has a huge install base and Sony is still selling consoles. But look how many games are flip flopping between the PS2 and the Wii. There have been a slew of PS2 to Wii ports: Harvey Birdman, Prince of Persia and all those budget games from Conspiracy Entertainment. We’re just beginning to see Wii to PS2 ports starting with Boogie and Godzilla. If the trend continues the PS2 may be around longer than 2008!
Something I noticed…Atari’s press release didn’t mention the PSP version of the game at all, which leads me to believe that the PS2 version might not be a port-down of the Wii version at all, but a port-up of the (now apparently canned) PSP version. It makes sense, really. There would have to be only minimal changes to the control scheme, and the extra monsters could be an incentive to get people to buy a “graphically inferior” version. Plus, I can’t really see PSP sales of a very niche game like this being high enough to merit a PSP version at all. So it really makes a lot of sense for the PS2 version to be a port-up of the PSP version.
And let’s not even talk about the DS version. Last screens I saw of that made it look like the most absolutely awful thing I’ve ever seen on the DS. Ever. Seriously, not exaggerating at all.
@Levi - that’s a good point! Now that I think about it I’ve never even seen the PSP game lurking around so that makes a lot of sense.

at least this one is getting downgraded for the PS2, not ported over for the Wii.
Still, it’s a shame they probably have the game running on polycounts and assets that can be downgraded into PS2, but given the budget it’s not a big surprise.
I wish them luck. As for PS2, it can last as long as they want but please don’t make Wii having to bear with it’s graphics.
