Where are the North American Wiis?

This could just be a coincidence, but as of yesterday many video game stores in Akihabara are packed with Nintendo Wiis. You don’t have to wait in line or go through eBay to get a system. They are right on store shelves and when I was walking around a brand new shipment was being delivered. Each box holds three consoles, so there are 18 on the cart. With so many Wii's in the wild it's as if Nintendo is holding back stock to prepare for a massive holiday re-launch.

  • I think they're at some of the lesser known online retailers. When the Wii first came out, I knew that standing in line would not be feasible if I wanted to get one, so put an ad on Craigslist for online retailers. I found one that operates out of my city, and I was able to get a Wii there the first week they came out. And I've pointed friends there who haven't had luck at retailers who have been able to get one easily. I'd have to agree with you though and say that Nintendo's waiting for a holiday relaunch, especially with Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy coming out during that time.

Oh, the retailer's name is Video Game King.

This all seems speculative to me.
The local Best Buy rep told me this evening that they received 87 Wiis in their last shipment.

I counted 22 on the shelf.
