Midway’s future, more Mortal Kombat in the horizon

midway.jpgUnreal Tournament 3 got pushed back to the first fiscal quarter of 2008 and it’s going to be followed by other next generation installments of Midway's franchises. The publisher is currently developing follow ups to NBA Ballers, the Blitz football series and a brand new Mortal Kombat.

Midway has done a kosher job of digging the franchise out of the grave with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. But now that the bar has been raised, Midway has to make something spectacular for Sub-Zero’s next game. Are they really going to add in characters from DC comics? Superman doing fatalities?

  • I would actually say that Deadly Alliance was the final nail in the coffin for Mortal Kombat, it was just that bad of a game… Deception an Armageddon then would just be Midway beating a dead horse.

Midway! Knock off all this nonsense!

What you REALLY NEED TO DO is rehire Ed Logg, then put him in charge of another Gauntlet game! None of this Seven Sorrows stuff. Then do more exploratory racers like SF Rush! You have the rights to all of Atari Games later output, take advantage of it! Hopefully by (rehiring them, then) putting the original designers in charge of the project.

I can’t believe people were even repeating the DC rumor. Seriously, now would they allow their main characters to be mutilated in a game or any other type of media? No.

Now, by “reinventing” MK, they could not have gore and all that stuff.. but then again it would have to be titled something other than MK. The only reasonable guest franchise I can think of is Killer Instinct.

I’m believing the DC rumor on the sole fact that I never, in a MILLION years, would have guessed that the next MK game would be MK Vs DC. Someone has got to be telling the truth and i’m betting that this leaked.

A new NBA Ballers sounds cool as well. It’s one of those games that i’ve always liked even though I’m not a sports fan and the graphics have always been killer.
