Namco’s fictional arcade in Game Center CX

By Spencer . October 5, 2007 . 11:22am

gamecentercx.jpgIn Japan there is a TV show with comedian Shinya Arino trying to complete Famicom games called Game Center CX. Since retro games don’t have save points, Arino struggles through them while the audience laughs at his frustration.

Namco Bandai’s take on the show is rather clever. In Game Center CX: Arino no Chousenjou for the DS you’re forced to sit through with the host and play through parodies of popular Famicom games. Cosmic Gate is like Galaga and Rally King is like Rally-X. Not all the parodies are of Namco Bandai titles, Guadia Quest pokes fun at Dragon Quest. I like the creative spin on this and I’ll be picking it up on November 15 when it comes out in Japan.

I’m glad I’m not the only one waiting for this game. :)
Funnily enough for years I had an idea for a game very similar to this. While it wasn’t me doing it it’s nice to see someone take “my” idea and do it with such attention to detail. They even went as far as to create fake reviews/background for these “fake” games.

Well, that sure is an interesting idea! ^_^ I’ll be keeping an eye on this game!
