The series might be over, but that doesn’t mean more games can’t come out. On December 20 Konami is releasing one of two Prince of Tennis games for the Nintendo DS. However, the focus of the game isn’t returning serves. In the Prince of Tennis: Driving Smash! side Genius you act as the team manager, you set up training schedules and practice matches for Ryoma Echizen and fifteen other characters. By making characters play against one another you can create friendships and rivalries.
Quite different from the over the top tennis matches from the anime series, huh?
Prince of Tennis is one of my favorite animes and I loved the Prince of Tennis Smash Hit 1 and 2 for the PS2 and the 2005 Crystal Drive for the DS becaue those were actual tennis games. I was really hoping for a follow up to the Crystal Drive game so I’m pretty dissapointed to learn that again this is a tennis game where you cant play tennis…. So here’s hoping for a good PS3 or Wii game in the future…
Prince of Tennis was one of my favorite anime as well, up to maybe Hyotei.. or Rokukaku, but after that, the manga is just getting too ridiculous, w/ super sayian aura and such.
@Derek - Prince of Tennis on the Wii seems inevitable and I bet it will have all of the ridiculous glowing tennis shots as seen in the manga. Also there could be actual tennis in this too. So far Konami has only talked about the management mode. Keep your fingers crossed.
@Aoshi00 - I totally agree with you about how silly the series kept going. At first I really enjoyed it, but then it fell into the typical shonen mold.

Over the top for sports anime is usually good, for Prince of Tennis manga, it’s so ridiculous that it’s no laughable, I don’t know it makes the readers cry or laugh.
I wonder all the PS2 games from before were about tennis or just dating sim w/ a huge male cast from different schools.
