Beautiful Katamari rolling up cash with downloadable content

Each downloadable level in Beautiful Katamari rings in at 200 Microsoft Points ($2.50). Four of the pay-per-play stages are now available in Japan (three for Asia), three more are coming out next week. On the plus side, the add on stages are more creative than the roll everything up in X minutes levels found in Beautiful Katamari. One of them has players search for string and another has the tiny prince roll up cheap items. There are some neat concepts for Katamari fans here, but I’m not entirely keen on paying for each level. I wish Namco Bandai had a discounted pack with the four stages or better yet included more levels on the actual disc.

That’s why I’m never fond of extra downloadable contents, it’s like they’re saying whatever they sold us for $50 is incomplete, how much do they want us to play just one single game..

Veilknight Says:

If only more developers were simply kind enough to gracefully include downloadable content as a free added bonus gamers can have to extend the life of a game after beating it, maybe I’d be more keen toward paying a little extra as a means to get more playing time, as long as the price is right anyway.

But when there’s rarely if ever any free content, and worse of all, most of the time it’s only there for a limited time, I can’t help but feel slightly ripped off. We’re already paying $59.99 for next-gen titles on 360 and PS3, $10 more than we had to pay for games on last-gen consoles like PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube, there’s no reason more developers like Namco Bandai couldn’t cut us a break and release some extra levels for Beautiful Katamari for free.

As a matter of fact, I can’t help but agree with Spencer that these stages really should have been included with the retail disc of Beautiful Katamari in the first place. Namco Bandai really have no excuse for not bundling the game with more levels and objectives, and like Idolm@ster before it, they’re simply using this downloadable content as a means to make a quick buck off their fanbase after they already purchased the title to begin with.

It’s funny how all the charm of Katamari Damacy evaporates when Namco tries to milk us for extra cash.

Boon Says:

It appears that the levels ARE included on the retail discs, and the DLC (~300KB per “level”) is acting as a key to unlock that content. Burn =/

Jon Smith Says:

Honestly, I’m tired of everyone complaining about how they’re charging extra for these levels. Think of it as a gift, you buy the game for $40, $20 cheaper than most games like Gears of War and Halo 3 which are charging $60 plus extra for the new levels they make, and if you don’t like the game you saved $10 on not buying the extra levels. So in reality Namco Bandai is doing you and everyone a favor.

Tim Says:

Oh my god will you whiney babies just shut up. It’s $2.50…$2.50!!! I can find that on the floor of my car!…if you can’t afford that then you shouldn’t have bought an xbox or any current gen gaming system.

The senseless Microsoft bashing is rediculous. The same stuff happens on the PS3 & The Wii.
