Ghost Squad gets a premature price break in the USA

gsquadwii.jpgThere are so many new releases this week in North America it’s easy to look over the fact that the Wii Zapper is debuting on Thursday in Japan. I was talking to someone about it earlier and mentioned how North America is getting a much better deal. If you want to get the plastic shell in Japan you have to buy the Ghost Squad Zapper bundle for 6,279 yen ($54). It’s about the same price as a regular game and you don’t get Link’s Crossbow Training.

Then he told me $50 is on the high side because Sega cut the price down to thirty bucks in the USA. However, only some retailers have Ghost Squad penciled in at $29.99. Others like Best Buy are shilling it for $50. Thirty dollars is not a bad price for Ghost Squad if you enjoy light gun stuff. Hopefully, Sega will stick to the enticing $30 price when Ghost Squad is released in November so the game flies off the rack and prompts more light gun ports from Sega. I'm not so secretly crossing my fingers for House of the Dead remakes or Let's Go Jungle.

I think cutting Ghost Squad’s price in half for North America is a wise decision on Sega’s part, as the game is relatively unknown compared to their more popular light gun games such as the House of the Dead and Virtua Cop franchise. I think people who may normally past over the game could potentially give this title a second look at only $29.99. After all, at that price, it wouldn’t hurt to at least try out Ghost Squad for a spin to see if you’ll like the title or not.

More importantly, I can put that extra $20 saved from buying Ghost Squad for $29.99 toward buying the Wii Zapper bundle with Link’s Crossbow Training. That way I’ll be able to play the game as it was meant to be enjoyed as seen and featured in the arcades: with a proper light gun peripheral.
