Learn languages with your PSP and a cheaper Talkman

talkman.jpgTalkman has fallen to obscurity, but the Sony’s pocket translator isn’t half bad. When you use Talkman you plug a microphone on top of your PSP and talk into it. Max, the game’s feathered mascot, makes a crude attempt to translate what you’re saying in English to Japanese, Chinese or Korean. Granted he doesn’t do a perfect job and you need the area to be devoid of noise for it the live translator to work.

Talkman also has preset phrases and modes to help you learn what they mean. If you’re trying to learn Asian languages the reasonably priced PSP the Best version of Talkman isn’t a bad study aid for 2,800 yen ($25). Ditto for European languages and Talkman Euro. The only catch is this cheaper price does not include the microphone, which means you miss out on the mode where Max grades your pronunciation.

I never knew that Talkman had Chinese support. Maybe its a PAL thing but when I checked the boxes at work last month I swear that there was no Chinese. If so then I should pick it up. ^_^

Spencer Says:

@Daniel Primed - Ah! That’s because Sony released Talkman Euro for PAL regions which has English, French, German, etc. The purple Talkman is the Asian one which has Japanese, Korean, English and Chinese.

Seems okay. I don’t own a PSP, but if I did, I might would import it.

Also, Nintendo made a silimar thing to Talkman (a language translator thing) for Nintendo DS.

Also, Nintendo made a silimar thing to Talkman (a language translator thing) for Nintendo DS, which seems kinda silimar.

Seems nice. I don’t have a PSP though. The game seems okay, and would be handy in Japan to translate sayings.

Seems nice. The game would be handy in Japan to translate the other people langauges. Plus, a shorter price is okay too, too bad you have to miss out on 1 mode because of it..

Seems like a nice game. Using the translator could come in handy going to other countries, plus the price seems nice, too bad you have to miss one mode because of it.

ChrisUlt Says:

Seems like a good game.
