Family timer added to the Xbox 360 firmware

Family timer added to the Xbox 360 firmware imagesMicrosoft is adding in a useful feature for parents, a family timer that automatically shuts the Xbox 360 off after a pre-set length of time. Vista has a similar feature so seeing Microsoft add this to the Xbox 360 is hardly surprising. However, the feature shows how Microsoft is proactively courting families to pick up Xbox 360s instead of other consoles. Will extended parental controls do the trick? Maybe… maybe if the Xbox 360 had more games geared towards the tween and younger audience.

Sorta like that NES "lock" that kept a cartridge from being inserted.

Another instance of gamer's rights being stripped away by "Big Mother".
