StarTropics heading to the Virtual Console?

st1.png In a turn of events that is sure to make many a Wii owner happy, the NES classic StarTropics has shown up in the database of Australia's OFLC website. As usual, this isn't 100% confirmation that the game will show up on the Virtual Console in the US, but it makes it very likely. StarTropics is interesting because it was never released in Japan, nor was it ever planned for a Japanese release. Kind of makes you wonder if Japan will get it on the Virtual Console at some point. Granted, it would require hefty translation, but it would be interesting to say the least to see the Japanese Virtual Console getting American imports.

Yes, I remember reading about how this game was made for Americola. Certainly one of my favorite NES games, who can forget the music? Or the strangely stiff controls (odd because this game came AFTER Zelda. Which makes me wonder if the stiffness was deliberate)?

It might’ve also been the last time I was able to ever buy a new, shrink wrapped NES game from a major retailer (Toys R Us). They had them on sale for $5 each. ST’s a really fun and challenging game.

This makes me wonder how they are going to pull off that one puzzle (you know the one that required you to soak the back page of your manual) on the VC. Post it in the game information page perhaps?

Oh yeah, that’s right Ryan. The game came with a letter from your uncle. That was so cool, having the player wet it to reveal a hidden message. Yeah, I wonder how they’ll deal with that part…
