Watch: Final Fantasy IV Theme of Love MV

By Rolando . November 30, 2007 . 10:07pm

Surely you've heard snippets of the new Theme of Love song from the previous Final Fantasy IV trailer and have probably asked yourself if there is a full version. Well now you may rejoice! Posted below is the music video from MTV Japan of Final Fantasy IV's Theme of Love performed by Ida Emi, and I can say that the lyrics do justice to the song's overall feel. I'm sure a lot of you remember Theme of Love playing during Cecil and Rosa's many instances with each other throughout the course of the game.

What's your verdict on the new lyrical take?

Absolutely beautiful, haven’t been able to get this song out of my head ever since I heard it from the trailers. You can’t go wrong by filling meaningful lyrics into an exisiting melody, it kind of reminds me of FF IX’s theme sung by Shiratori Emiko, w/ a warm and sad feeling. This is tons better than using a pop song, like the Utada Hikaru garbage that plagued the Kingdom Hearts games.

MUST HAVE! I need this game. While I’ve played FF4 about 9 million times already, this is the first time a fully fleshed-out remake has been done.

As for the music, I’ll just say ditto to Aoshi00’s post.

DarkeSword Says:

This isn’t the first time FFIV’s love theme has gotten the lyrical treatment. 13 years ago Square released Final Fantasy Vocal Collections I -Pray-, an album that arranged songs from the first six Final Fantasy games with lyrics in all different languages. The Theme of Love from FFIV was one of the selections on the CD, arranged for orchestra and voice with Japanese lyrics beautifully sung by Risa Ohki.

The lyrics and arrangement seem different here though, though no less lovely. Hunt down the old album if you can; it’s a gem.

Nice info, will try to get my hands on it if I have a chance. I’m still waiting for my Archaic Sealed Heat OST. I don’t know why people dissed everything about the game including the music, the soundtrack was quite exciting and memorable.

Rolando Says:

Ah Aoshi! I’m glad to see you gave the game a chance. What did you think of it overall?

@ DarkeSword

Thanks for the mention. I’ll have to look into finding the CD for myself.

Aoshi00 Says:

@Rolando: To simply put, I haven’t spent ~40hrs on any single DS game yet until ASH came along. It’s not w/o nuisances like your review said, but I greatly enjoyed the strategic placement of characters on the map, the turn based battle’s animation was beautiful to look at. The later chapters splitting into two parts or more are so long though, so it’s always safe to keep your ex-guage full for the boss fights, which aren’t enough unfortuately. I love the story and the music got me pumped. Overall, one of the most addictive RPGs in recent years, too bad many gamers dismissed it entirely due to its slight flaws.
