Report! Wii Fit launch in Shinjuku

By Spencer . December 1, 2007 . 4:47pm

Yester/today (time difference?) Wii Fit landed on store shelves in Japan. I think I mentioned this before, but the timing is a little unusual, most games are released on Thursdays.

While I was in Shinjuku I discovered Bic Camera was holding a mini event for Wii Fit. They cleared out space for a single playable demo. Everyone who played the game had to take off their shoes and the friendly staff put a sanitary cover over the balance board. I skipped the demo since the wait was twenty minutes, but I caught a glimpse of a few more mini games. I saw a tightrope walking game and a jogging simulator.

Ignore the mock Wii Fit boxes for a second and hone your eyes to the message on the right. One per person, no reselling. Below are pictures of the demo station. Notice how their is a mock hardwood floor? It's there to simulate the feel of being in a living room.

I thought I took a picture of the Wii Fit box too, but I missed it. The packaging looks like a briefcase. Actually, it could double as a briefcase once the goods are taken out.

I’m actually excited about getting this once it’s released in the states. though I can’t really explain why…

Can’t say I’m too thrilled about all these indoor yoga stuff.. Wii sports was okay and Wii Play was super boring.. I know there’s the balance board, but 8000 some yen seems a little steep.

So there weere no crazy long “Dragon Quest” style lines for this huh? Maybe it won’t be the sales smash hit everyone is predicting it to be. I’m sorry, but I hope the game fails miserably for Nintendo. This “non-game” trend in the industry is wearing out ti’s welcome.

You can see the package in the sign the guy in the first picture is holding.

I must say… Angelous I think you are right… Even if my friend is repeating that this is the “future” I just can’t admit that it is. And I wish I won’t have to admit it.

  • I bet the people who made “Yourself!Fitness” for the PS2 and Xbox (a personal trainer/exercise program) are kicking themselves not making a GC version (which they could then easily update to work with the Wii Fitness board, I’d think)
