@Kakashi and Hitmaker

Y'know, those 7s do something. Get one and press the - button on the Wii Remote, especially around a lot of enemies.
That;s Anarchy in the Galaxy.

And, those 7's give you 10,000 at the end of a level.
So, One 7-10,000
Two 7s-20,000.

For the interested, All of the super modes have (weird) )names:

Bar - Cranberry Chocolate Sunday
grasshopper - Blueberry Cheese Brownie
Bell - Strawberry on the Shortcake

Nice read...

I was really looking forward to this game, but unfortunately it got censored here in Europe, so I wont be getting this game. It's really sad that they left us out from the original version of the game which will be released in the US.

@everyone - thanks for the positive feedback :)

@Swallow - yeah, the later mini games are more interesting and have much more motion control. This write up was based on notably early impressions to explain the experience while minimizing the spoilers. Perhaps, a second No More Heroes piece will come up closer to the US release? I've got so many other games to write about!

@kakashi - Ahh the Star Wars references are bountiful. Doesn't Sylvia say use the force or something in one segment. I imagine some US gamers will appreciate the jokes. The hub world is a different story though.

Shinobu is one of the most awesome bosses ever, and my second favourite in No More Heroes... ;)

I tended to repeat Gig 18 for money, lots of cash for six minutes work...

Have you noticed the one-hit missions yet Spencer? They're the blue mission markers, normally in a location where you've previously completed an Assassination Gig. They really made me think about how I was fighting, and made the higher ranked boss levels less frustrating since I was more adept with the controls.

Oh, and be sure to visit the location of the sword icon on the map - there should be something interesting for you there now, given where you are in the game.

Nice writeup, Spencer. I noticed that you can do the assassination gig(s) over and over, to get enough money. I repeated the #1 gig over and over for $30,000 LB dollars.

However, it does seem that the manual labor jobs (coconuts, trash collecting, etc.) do open up more assassination gigs. Also, you've probably noticed this as well, but you can hold more than one coconut at a time, and run faster by mashing the A button.

I'm currently ranked #8, after defeating Shinobu. The story gets much more interesting, and this boss is much harder than #9 and #10.

I let my fiancee's brother play, and he had so many gripes with the game, such as the graphics, and how you can't really drive over land to take shortcuts w/the motorcycle. He also didn't like the little "Star Wars" 8-bit segment when you advance up the assassin list. I think his thoughts will be shared among most gamers in the USA, unfortunately.

It's only hardcore import gamers /otaku like us who will truly appreciate the gem that this game really is.

Sylvia talking thru the remote speaker like a phone? Neat! Can't wait to play this game. You know what, I've decided to buy a Jpn Wii to save me all these aggrevation (I know Nodame wouldn't be coming out here), but I'm patiently waiting for a different color because I don't want two white Wiis sitting side by side.

Heh, nice write up as always, Spencer.

re: mini games. When you complete a mini-game, it unlocks and assassination gig at K Entertainment. These are far more fun than the mini-games, and generally pay more money, so it's worth completing all the mini-games (some of them only appear when you hit a certain rank) to get all the assassination jobs.

You're spot on about the controls in the fighting section, using the Wii remote only for finishing moves is a really good implementation. It is possible to stun enemies using the B button (hold it down to guarantee a stun) from either high or low stance too.
