I usually don’t talk about non-gaming stuff on Siliconera or write tales about the “terrors of gaming” because I like to keep Siliconera light-hearted and more importantly fun! However, I just want to get up on a (tiny) soapbox for a moment to mention the Iowa Caucuses. (Yes, if you don’t live in the USA you can totally ignore this.)
Discussion is brewing about presidential candidates and their stances on issues related to video game legislation. GamePolitics, who is really interested in that kind of thing, (happily?) notes two candidates with harsh views towards games didn't fare well last night. Great, but I urge you to not base your vote, especially a vote in the primaries, solely on a politician’s stance on video games. Outside of our microcosm there are more important issues at hand like international relations, war and the economy to pay attention to. The subprime mortgage woes aren’t going to vanish over night! These issues and many, many more take precedent over video games. So before you get out there and pull a lever think about the bigger picture. And do go out there and vote! During the primaries too, which are arguably more important than running to the polls in November.
While games are important to us gamers, I agree w/ you Spence that are more serious issues at hand for this election.
Funny this afternoon I was just discussing w/ my boss about the stock market, dwindling US economy, and election, in general.
Still, can’t imagine anyone in their sane mind would want to ban/censor video games, maybe we should all just play rock, paper, scissors, as EGM put it..
I don’t want to vote for Ron Paul, cause he might found an underwater dystopian society based on libertarian ideals and gene splicing, like Andrew Ryan.
..remember when he killed his gardener over a contractual disagreement? I’d rather not go through that.
@Aoshi
maybe the economy wouldn’t be *dwindling* if Pinko “save-ists” like yourself would get out there and spend!!
if you don’t buy every iPod iteration and all PSP LEs the day they come out, you’re a terrorist.
On one hand, I’d say that it’s pretty sad to decide who to vote for based on a non-issue like video games. But at the same time, it bothers me greatly that a presidential candidate would make such a big deal out of something so insignificant.
Personally, I want a president that will get us out of Iraq, realistically address the national debt, and limit the power of the federal government. I think that makes it pretty obvious who my choice is, but I unfortunately can’t vote for him in the primaries because I’m affiliated with the wrong party. Oops!
Game-related issues aside though, Clinton and Romney are coincidentally the two candidates I dislike the most in this race. I probably won’t even vote if they end up being my two choices in November.

I don’t want to vote for Obama, cause he might die early, like the black cop in RE2.
..remember he was bleeding by the lockers? I can’t go through that again.
