Koei experimenting with Xbox 360 downloadable expansion packs

smxl.jpgNearly every Samurai Warriors (Sengoku Musou) or Dynasty Warriors (Shin Sangoku Musou) game gets a follow up. Koei isn’t shy about capitalizing on a base game, but with Samurai Warriors 2 they are trying a new strategy. Sengoku Musou 2 Moushouden (aka Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends) arrived on the PlayStation 2 last summer, but only for the PlayStation 2. Considering the sales of the Xbox 360 version were nowhere near as good as the PS2 release Koei did not release the expansion disc in retail stores.

Instead Koei plans on selling it over the Xbox Live Marketplace for 2400 Microsoft Points ($30) in Japan on March 19. So far Koei has only announced Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends as a PlayStation 2 project, which probably means the downloadable expansion pack will arrive in the US too. Hopefully, not half a year later after the PlayStation 2 release like it did in Japan.
