Snag Skype on the latest PSP Network Update

pspmic.jpgIt’s the end of the month and Sony came through with their promise to bring Skype to PSP-2000 owners. Firmware 3.90 is live. I’ve tested Skype out with the PSP headset and it works pretty much the same if you’re playing with VoIP. I can’t really imagine sending IMs through it though.

I don’t believe anyone has made a public report testing Skype with the Talkman microphone yet. The metallic accessory was originally going to be sold alone and in twin packs to share with friends in Japan. Sony isn’t selling the pack because it wasn't up to par and it’s the reason why Skype got pushed back in Japan. Now that the new firmware is out I’m curious to see if Sony disabled Talkman microphone support altogether.

Also since new firmware is in the air, I imagine the PSP homebrew community is already working on a custom firmware upgrade. Will they be able to patch Skype for the PSP to work on the bulky PSP-1000? It would be an impressive feat if the homebrew community pulled it off!

it seems that skype requiere 64mb of ram and the psp-1000 is only 32 … that means almost no chance to get it running on it

woohoo! called the wife on it …. its pretty neato - i even used the talkman mic with it - but it was kinda weird putting the PSP to my face and don’t see myself using it too much - but its nice that its there.
