Heavenly Star shines in the European version of No More Heroes

heavenlystar.jpgEarlier this week, fellow Siliconera writer Levi informed me the Heavenly Star music video was cut from the Ubisoft’s “red” version of No More Heroes. Since I have the Japanese version I was completely unaware that it got cut. Definitely surprising news considering Ubisoft the song remains in the game and Ubisoft has a relationship with Q Entertainment. Remember how they published Lumines in North America?

I sent over an e-mail to Rising Star Games who is publishing No More Heroes in Europe and asked if the Heavenly Star music video would appear in their release. I got a short response back saying, “Yes, we have included it.” This makes the European version essentially the same as the Japanese version except the subtitles and mission objectives are not written in kana.

Damn Ubisoft…

Wait….

Ubisoft’s “red” Version?

TwistedParadox Says:

The version with blood, aka US version.

Spencer Says:

“red” as in “bloody” the Japanese version uses black dots to hide the blood. The European version will do the same.

MidnightScott Says:

WTF they didn’t include it in the US version? wtf is their problem <_<;

JC Fletcher Says:

The song is still played in stores, but the video has been replaced with the first trailer for pre-NMH “Heroes.”

Spencer Says:

@JC Fletcher - Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard and verified through a number of sources. And it’s exactly what I found so strange too. Why leave the song in and remove the video? I guess having a pre-NMH trailer is kind of a neat extra though.

@TwistedParadox & Spencer

I know about the differences, but I didn’t know it was dubbed “red”

Oh well, there is always youtube

Spencer Says:

@ryne11 - Ah… I see. I dubbed it that because calling it the bloody version sounds too pejorative. It makes violence and the negative stereotype surrounding violent games the focal point of the US version. So I was thinking of a euphemism and Ketchup filled seemed too tongue in cheek.

Nymo Says:

well, Remember that Lumines II was published under Disney Interactive, and that was the one with Heavenly Star in it…

Maybe there was some legal issue with Disney in the US that Ubisoft didn’t want to deal with, so it was cut out…

who knows…
