Sales of Zack & Wiki steady, We Love Golf sluggish

There is a misconception that Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure underperformed last year, but sales weren’t bad at all. Capcom says the franchise “grew steadily” in a 3rd quarter financial report statement, with 300,000 copies sold worldwide. The number may not be as big as the 950,000 copies of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles sold worldwide, but Zack & Wiki isn’t doing badly at all.

On the other hand We Love Golf, a title born from a partnership with Mario Golf developer Camelot, and Mega Man Star Force 2 sales were considered “sluggish.” To be fair these titles were only released in Japan. Results could vary when they get an international release, but cheer up Zack & Wiki fans all your grassroots marketing efforts weren’t in vain.

I just picked up Zack & Wiki last week w/ No More Heroes and find myself playing the former more. Some of the puzzles make me scratch my head and getting a perfect score is very satisfying. No Wii owner should pass up this little gem. And Wiki’s dialogue is so hilarious :)

Honestly, without a shallow of a doubt I think Capcom is arguably the best third party company on the Wii as of right now. As a result, I truly believe they deserve to benefit from strong software sales on account of their efforts of being one of the few developers out there properly finding unique uses for the Wii remote instead of just releasing shovelware and then complaining about slow sales.

I think the good sales of Zack & Wiki, especially for a new video game property which didn’t really receive much publicity yet alone advertising compared to your usual big name video game franchise, reinforces the point that many people including myself have been making that with any gaming console out there, not just only for the Wii, if third party companies want to see successful sales on this system they’re going to have to take the time and money necessary to develop quality titles using the Wii remote in mind instead of sloppily putting together shoddy ports of last-gen titles with poorly conceived motion controls trying to piggyback and capitalize off of the Wii’s unexpected, not to mention rapid, overnight success and attach rate the console has achieved almost overnight due in part to the impressive sales numbers monthly.
