This April the World Ends With You

On April 22, Square Enix is going to release the World Ends With You in North America. Unlike Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, the World Ends With You is heavily infused with Japanese culture and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be retooled for the West. Neku Sakuraba keeps his name and the setting is still Shibuya. Considering how more Japanese games aren’t getting “Westernized” this isn’t out of the ordinary, but I’m quite interested to see how North America reacts to the World Ends With You when it arrives in stores. Could the World Ends With You sell better in the West than it did in Japan?

Who knows. Persona 3 was pretty strongly rooted in Japanese aesthetics and culture — it was a bit more vague than TWEWY, but I don’t think it should matter too much so long as the game itself is solid.

This is a game I have wanted ever since it was announced, and I’ve heard some pretty good impressions! Can’t wait until this April! Not sure how well it’ll sell though…

This game sounds exciting but after failing horribly while playing Ontamarama I’m worried I won’t be able to do both parts simultaneously.

Also, did it not do well in Japan? Your comment on it selling better sort of hints at that.

nick Says:

I played the game before and it was one of my favorite ds games in a long time.

Spencer Says:

@alice - sales were a little light compared to Square Enix’s other DS games. I think it may have been due to a lack of advertising.

Keeping originality as much as possible is important.
Otherwise people will bitch about it -_-;

nick Says:

It is not that people will complain about it,it is just the game would make no sense fashion wise or culture wise if they just slaped that you were in Chicago or any other generic American city,trust me it is a more important factor than something like persona 3 even showed.
