Vyse’s Game Room

GR 1

Over the years I’ve bought and played a ton of games.  As I’ve played and bought, my collection has grown out of hand.  My parents have tried to stop my collection’s expansion from trying to limit the quantity of systems I was allowed to own to lecturing not to spend money on the week’s hot game.  These days they’ve grown to accept my sometimes unhealthy obsession, yet one problem still remained for a long time: where do I keep my constantly expanding collection?  My mother originally came up with the idea that we should keep them in Rubbermaid containers, stacked on top of each other.  The problem with this arrangement was that the games were hidden from sight, therefore my friends never knew what games they’d like to play from my library and even if they did, I’d have to lift heavy containers to get at that dastardly one at the bottom of the pile that held the prized title within.

Over the winter break, I decided to rectify the situation.  My old bedroom no longer had a bed in it as I brought it up to college with me so it had plenty of space and nothing to fill it.  I got the idea to put all of my games up on some customizable DVD/CD shelves and put an old arm chair from my teenage years (not out of tune with the nostalgia found in the collection itself) in the now vacant space.  I’ve finally put up the shelves, arranged the games the way I want them (though some alphabetization still needs to be done), and decorated the room accordingly with some oddities I’ve come across over the course of the years.  Of course, I’ve left some room for some of my other hobbies as well (records, comics, manga, novels, etc.).  Now all I need is a nice TV and a couple bean bag chairs and I’ll be ready to entertain!  Hit past the break to see the fruits of my labor.

Is the Berserk manga good all the way through? I LOVED the anime, but I’m only through the 3rd book so far. I know the series only covered a third of the story which is what got me started on them.

I can’t believe you have Steel Battalion. To this day, I have always wanted to see the controller, and how the game plays (regardless of all the reviews). I remember reading that the controller was three original Xbox’s wide.

@thesandworm: Berserk is by far my favorite manga. It’s still amazing in the 20th tokoban so keep reading! The art style and just the atmosphere are unparalleled. I even own both games, the one that was released here for the DC and the Japanese-only PS2 game. If you have the means to import PS2 games, it’s definitely an amazing game that doesn’t need knowledge of Japanese to be enjoyed.

The PS2 game sounds interesting and I have a PS3 which I understand is no region. I have the DC game and it’s pretty terrible but at 8 dollars in a closeout bin I couldn’t resist it. I’ll definitely order more Berserk books, so far I’m loving all the extra character development and sheer weirdness over the animated series. Thanks for the response!

@KAMPFSTOFF Lost: Yeah, I bought that game when they reprinted it. I have the controller with the blue and red buttons (the original had green and red) but I think aesthetically it looks much better. It’s an awesome game to play but it’s really difficult. It’s definitely fun for a quick novelty play every once in a while, though. I also have the multiplayer-only sequel Line of Contact but have never played it since I know no one else with the game LOL.

@thesandworm: The DC game is not nearly as good as the PS2 game, which is more in line with something like Ninja Gaiden (though more boss focused than level focused). However, your PS3 system can play any region PS3 games but only the PS2 and PSX games of the region you bought it in. Therefore, if you have a US system, you can only play US PS2 games. I recommend picking up a Japanese PS2 system in a couple of years when they aren’t so popular (therefore cheaper) so you can enjoy PS2 and PSX games from that region.

My collection is nowhere near that big, but I am running into the problem of not having enough room for all of my video games and anime DVDs. Hopefully I’ll have my own house one day, so I can then have a room dedicated to storing all my fun stuff.

matty Says:

Oh, wow - you have a Virtual Boy? I’ve only seen them once in person.
I don’t have shelves since they would take up to much space, but I’d have to get one if my collections reach the thousands. It’s getting there…

And I love your dressers!
