I think this is pretty well known, but in case it wasn’t obvious by the influx of press coverage, Sega sent out a press release confirming a 2008 target for Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. While Sonic has had a rocky road since he moved into the third dimension, I’m pretty excited for a Sonic the Hedgehog RPG. I always thought we would see one before Sonic would hold a gun and technically we are.
So far all of the screenshots show familiar faces from the Sonic series like Rouge the Bat, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose and Big the Cat in sprite form. It’s sort of a throwback to classic Sonic when Sega’s mascot was the belle of the Genesis ball. Supposedly, the story in the Dark Brotherhood will “tie up loose ends” in the series. Considering the fragmented events between Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis) and Sonic the Hedgehog (Xbox 360/PS3) Bioware has quite a challenge on their hands. I’m looking forward to how all these plot lines converge with Sonic’s multiple spin offs. Bonus points if they wrangle any of the original characters from Sonic: The Fighters into the story.
It is a shame they can’t just dump the Sega-made game story and use the Comics as the Canon story.
I still don´t understand why Sega gave the project to Bioware…with all the great RPG developers in Japan, and been a Japanese franchise…And well, let´s say I´m not a fan of Bioware games…
