Look: Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 Bundle

By Rolando . February 26, 2008 . 6:00pm

If you're late to the PS3 party and are waiting for one game to totally justify your purchase of a Playstation 3, then you might want to consider purchasing this newly announced MGS4 PS3 bundle from Sony! It'll cost you $499.99, but I'm pretty sure you knew that.

As previously mentioned here, the Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle comes complete with an 80GB PS3 (89% backwards compatibility with PS2/PSOne games), a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4, and the long awaited Dual Shock 3. Considering how gimped the 40GB model is in terms of backwards compatibility, those of you wanting some method of being able to play most of your PS2 and PSOne library on your PS3 (and not want to go through the trouble of finding a 60GB or overpaying for one on eBay) might want to get this bundle.

I just might take the plunge on this one! funny how a third of the posts on the sony blog are all about the BC. for whatever reason, it’s a huge selling point for me as well.

BC is big for me too. Even though my PS3 (which I bought a month after launch) has BC, it might as well not have the feature since about 80% of my PS2 library is Jpn imports, Should’ve gone for the Jpn PS3 console since Blu-Ray movies from Jpn and US are of the same region, a fact that I wasn’t aware of back then. Now I’m still forced to play my old PS2 games w/o taking the advantage of upconverting..

does anyone know when this well come out?

  • @xenofreak: Probably at the same time as the game itself, which is supposed to come out on June 12 (http://kotaku.com/360906/metal-gear-solid-4-finally-has-a-release-date)

@Aoshi00: Is the upconverting of PS2 games really worth it? I mean, is the difference THAT noticeable?

So, I am assuming this is a good deal?
I may actually do this. I DO want MGS4 after all

  • The PS3 momentum tidal wave is gearing up!! MGS is always a septuple-A title.

My question, is the PS3 branded? Cause the “reflection” of Snake on the box makes it look like it is.

I would consider that false advertising if it’s just a regular unit.

  • Matt

No, it’s not branded, it’s just Snakes reflection as if he were really standing next to the system.
