Farewell Front Mission Online

fmo.jpgOne of the disappointing occurrences from this console cycle change is seeing online enabled games shutting down forever. It happened to Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Resident Evil: Outbreak and the Gamecube version of Phantasy Star Online. At least all of those have offline modes. Front Mission Online not so much.

The PlayOnline enabled title made its debut almost three years ago in May 2005 on the PlayStation 2. At the end of May 2008 the servers go down forever, a bit of a surprise considering how Front Mission Online has a PC counterpart. If you’re one of the few people engaging in online mecha battles you may want to complete the Cast of Iron quest soon.

Farewell Front Mission Online we hardly knew you existed.

bye T-T, beloved game, why does ppl shut game servers down, why dont let em keep running foreva?

  • QBasic

    Servers cost monies. Lotsa monies…

And rather than wasting those servers on old titles, which we barely knew existed…^^;;, they can rather use them on news games, or current popular titles such as FFXI. Waste not.

  • jeffx

TacoBeaver, did you actually play this or something?

  • i like bye t-t it is a shame the game is getting limited every day …

  • TacoBeaver

jeffx, um… no BUT IT WAS SPECIAL, for other ppl who somehow figured out it existed… I never heard about this… WHY WILL U LEAVE US, WHY!?!!?

  • This is probably a ridiculous place to pose this question, but speaking of online games that will no longer be and/or may never be, has anyone heard anything about Grandia Online? It’s been in the works and a “beta” for… well… a really long time. I hope it hasn’t vanished, but it seems that way.

  • jeffx

@ Nick: seems like it did vanish. being a huge Falcom fan, I was also kind of looking forward to ys Online but did that ever come out? the MMORPG market is sooooo saturated.

maybe Spencer can cook up an article on Ys Online/Grandia Online.

  • @jeffx / Nick Doerr – I haven’t heard or seen anything about Grandia Online. You know I actually forgot about it entirely until you guys started bringing it up. Hmm.. Ys online could be interesting though… lets see what we can do about that.
