Wii Freeloaders not ready? Or is Datel out of stock?

By Spencer . February 29, 2008 . 11:20am

I still haven’t been able to reach Datel over the phone, but I got a partial e-mail response regarding the status of the Wii Freeloader. They didn’t answer any technical questions, but they “clarified” the ship date. Here is what I got back:

Hi thanks for your email

At present we do not have a release date for the wii freeloaders

There available for back order.

OK… so does that mean the device isn’t done? Or is the item so hot Datel is already sold out? If you got an order through and a Wii Freeloader is on a truck via UPS Ground (i.e. you have a shipping number) let us know through the tips. I just want to make sure these are actually going out and this isn’t a placeholder product.

Will keep an eye on my order, I hope it would ship soon.. since I’ve alrdy ordered a couple Jpn Wii games, including DQ Swords.

Jammy Says:

I too ordered the Freeloader pretty much the day it opened but it’s still on “unshipped”. I hope it does come through soon as i went ahead and bought some American and Japanese games.

I ordered on 3/1, so I can play Guitar Hero III on my Japanese Wii. My order status is still “unpaid/unshipped”.

ChocolateTeapot Says:

I ordered on 3/3 hoping to get it fast but looks like its not gonna happen. Still “unpaid/unshipped”

Adam Says:

My order from Feb 29 says the same thing “unpaid/unshipped” as well.

ChocolateTeapot Says:

Ok my order actually says shipped now! Hoping to get it soon :)

Update: I got an email this morning saying shipped! Woohoo! Now I can play Guitar Hero like everyone else! I never thought I’d be happy playing a domestic game.

To Kakashi

Has your freeloader arrived? I’ve got a Japanese wii and wondered if the “US” version of the wii freeloader is the correct one for a Japanese wii due to NTSC?

kakashi Says:

@Wayne (and anyone else interested): I got my freeloader on Friday, the 14th. I was VERY UPSET seeing the box say “For US consoles”. I was thinking, “$#%^#@, now I have to return this.”

However, I gave it a shot and followed their directions. You pop in the disc, and horizontal bars will scroll by, twice. Then you eject the disc, pop in your game, and you’re good to go.

I saw the GHIII logo, and instantly, a smirk appeared across my face. I clicked the はじめる icon and it worked!

So yeah, if you’ve ordered it from Codejunkies, the one that’s designated for “US Consoles” should work on your Japanese console too.

However, like the warning on the box says, it’s not guaranteed to be future proof, and if you want to continue to play imports (domestics in our case), don’t update your console (unless you want to, of course).

kakashi Says:

@Wayne: Sorry, I didn’t fully read your entire question — I was too excited to post here….

Regarding NTC, Japan and US are the same (NTC). If one or the other was PAL, then there might be some issues, which I guess is why the one made for US consoles works okay in the Japanese console.

However, in the directions, it says you may be able to play PAL games too, based on the “alternative method”,which consists of putting the disc in twice. Weird, I know.

So go ahead and order, if you haven’t already.
