Initial D: Arcade Stage 4 drifts onto the PlayStation 3

By Spencer . March 3, 2008 . 1:05pm

idex.jpgThis summer Sega has Initial D: Extreme Stage as one of their Japanese PlayStation 3 titles, which is essentially a port of Initial D: Arcade Stage 4. Previous home versions of Initial D: Arcade Stage included in online racing and Initial D: Extreme Stage is no exception. Players will be able to race rivals over the PlayStation Network. The first screenshots over at Famitsu look pretty nice, but besides a few pictures of a night battle there isn’t much else known about extra features, if any, over the arcade version.

YES!!! This is brilliant news! I’ve been waiting for this! Ahh, this is so awesome! Now, to make it truely awesome it’d be nice if they re-add tracks removed from Version 4 that were in Version 3 (Akina Snow and Tsuchisaka!!!).

This is great! Playing it on the arcades for £1 ($2….) a go can get really painful to my wallet.

hot damn! i was hoping for a 360 release, but expecting a ps3 one. either way, i’m sold. thank the lord for region-free gaming. it’s about damn time sega announced this. i can’t wait. i may just play through stage 3 and the psp version some to get psyched again. damn, this is good news. as the bearer of such good news, spence, you get to move up 3 notches in my proverbial book. when you add these 3 to the starcraft english study post points, you’re pretty high up there. seriously, that book is the most fascinating thing to me. sorry, i’m an esl teacher … and i currently work with a majority of koreans.

hmmm from the screenshots i cant say the visuals look too impressive. i would’ve expected some stylistic cel-shaded graphics to set it apart from other racing games. i remember a ps2 racer with cel-shaded graphics called auto modellista. it had amazing visuals but horrible gameplay (what kind of racing game does not make use of the ps2’s pressure sensitive buttons!?). ahhh being a fan of the anime i’ll still be sure to import a copy thanks to region-free ps3, i just hope it supports my logitech driving force pro wheel =]

Graphically it’s not bad….on the arcade anyway. The gameplay is good though. Takes some getting used since it’s quite a fair bit different to Version 3 and removes some of the techniques used in that.
