Compile Heart(s) 80s anime, licenses Windaria

Compile Heart got the wild idea to pick up the rights to Windaria, a 1980s anime movie. Even stranger is the tear jerking anime flick is going to be transformed into a dungeon RPG for the Nintendo DS called Dungeons of Windaria. Details are scarce, but characters from the film will be part of the game.

At its core Windaria is really a love story and I’m not quite sure how Compile Heart is going to translate the tale into a game. Windaria’s fantasy setting probably helps. The star-crossed lovers theme probably doesn’t. Perhaps, Compile Heart plans on emulating Dramatic Dungeon: Sakura Taisen?

I thought that sounded familiar. Windaria came out in the US as “Once Upon A Time.” Damn, that was like 20 years ago…
