A legend returns, Rockman Dash mobile nearly complete

In the days of the original PlayStation Mega Man Volnutt was an upbeat teenage archaeologist shooting reaverbots in 3D. He was fresh then. Now Mega Man Volnutt is reduced to cameos in crossover games. Apparently, the more iconic incarnations of Mega Man (including the dormant original) were too “busy” too appear in Namco X Capcom.

The good news is helmet-less Mega Man isn’t buried yet. Capcom has been releasing new areas for a mobile phone Rockman Dash title called Rockman Dash 5-tsu no Shima Daibouken (Rockman Dash Five Islands Great Adventure). Episodes began appearing on NTT DoCoMo last month and the fourth volume is about to come out on March 17. There aren’t many details about how the game functions, but it appears to retain the style of the source material. You run around in a 3D world, meet up with familiar characters like Tron Bonne and explore five areas on an island.

I doubt Rockman Dash 5-tsu no Shima Daibouken will satiate fans looking for answers after the cliffhanger in Mega Man Legends too, but a mobile phone game is a step towards digging the branch franchise out in the public eye.

I am still thoroughly cheesed that this was made for mobile phones and not the PSP or the DS. Come on, Japan, enough with your f’ing mobile games! You’ve taken Mega Man Legends and the Final Fantasy IV sequel, gives us across the pond some sequel love!
