Chaos Wars to be GameStop exclusive

By Levi . March 17, 2008 . 1:14pm

It's been long speculated that Chaos Wars, Idea Factory's crossover SPRG featuring characters from Growlanser, Shadow Hearts, Gungrave, Spectral Force, and more would be hitting the US courtesy of O3 Entertainment. An advertisement in the latest issue of Game Informer pretty much confirms this, and also reveals that the title is set to be GameStop exclusive.

And indeed, GameStop has a preorder page up for the game, with an April release date listed. While it's interesting that the game is GameStop exclusive, it's not completely strange, either. Most gamers interested in a title as niche as this probably aren't going to go looking for the game at Wal-Mart anyway. So, now that it's pretty much confirmed that Chaos Wars is coming, are any of you out there going to be checking it out?

Hello Hello Says:

I’ll be pre-ordering this if EB Games in Canada (which is the only GameStop brand in Canada) ever gets competent managing again. Right now you can’t even pre-order well known titles like the Metal Gear Solid collection or Mana Khemia. I hope I don’t miss out on this game, as I am a huge Shadow Hearts, Growlanser, and Spectral Souls fan. :(

Thank god this was finally confirmed. I’ve been waiting for word for so long.

Chris Dahlberg Says:

This would also explain why the game disappeared from the Gamefly database last time I had checked.

I am in the same Canadian boat as Hello Hello. DAMN IT!! I want this game _so bad_!!!

I do my best to avoid giving those glorified pawn shops my business, but this might have to be an exception.

MikoNoNyte Says:

Did it in Japanese. Enjoyed it enough to preorder in English months back. I look forward to it.

TomM Says:

It is about time. I pre-ordered it with them back in October or November and it keep getting pushed back. I don’t which was more heart breaking. This being pushed back again and again or smash brothers.

Zhemos Says:

Does anyone know if It’s gonna have dual audio?

Hello Hello Says:

We don’t know if there’s any voice audio at this point. O3 Entertainment isn’t exactly known as the big budget publisher to watch for. They may have removed the voice acting altogether.

Yeah, so the statement about it being a Gamestop exclusive just because it is a niche title doesn’t make a whole lot of sense…
The game was on Bestbuy.com last year (a dead link can still be found via search, or at least it still could a week ago when I last checked,) and stores like BB or Circuit City usually have budget titles like SNK’s Art Of Fighting Anthology for the correct MSRP whereas Gamestop usually debuts evrything at $19.99.
Furthermore, Gamestop isn’t even stocking every small publisher’s titles, as shown by the lack of recent UFO releases in U.S. stores. Heavenly Guardian for the PS2 - U.S. Gamestops never stocked the game online or in stores (although I’ve heard Canadian stores did.) It appears that they will also bypass UFO’s Wii shooter the Monkey King, as it’s UPC has not been loaded in Gamestop’s computers…
So in summation, Gamestop (a) doesn’t stock every niche title available in spite of being the undisputed conglomerate of video games in North America, (b) often jacks up prices $5-10 on budget titles they do stock, and (c) further annoy me by unwrapping a large portion of their games, thus netting me less profit when flipping titles on e-Bay, which in turn results in me making fewer purchases from their stores (I doubt I’m the only person that this affects…) While I am excited that Chaos Wars will see an U.S. release, I just wish I didn’t have to support that no-talent assclown of a corporation known as Gamestop.

@HB3

I’m not trying to say that the game is GameStop exclusive just because it’s niche. In fact I never said anything of the sort. I’m just saying that it’d be a bit more strange to see Chaos Wars as a Wal-Mart exclusive than a GameStop exclusive. GameStop caters specifically to gamers, and it makes more sense for it to be an exclusive title there than at a place like Wal-Mart or Target.

Reynard Says:

I had originally preordered the game when gamestop got an original release date back in october, i will definitely get this when it comes out. maybe even pick up two copies. anyhoo, the game is supposed to be pretty average but kudos to them for bringing the game out, they have at tleast two copies sold

Hmmm…

But seriously, I knew what you meant. It goes without saying that this game would not work as a Wal-Mart exclusive, because it is niche as hell. I wasn’t trying to comment on any one retailer holding exclusive rights, because as a consumer I think that sucks. As I said before I was looking forward to purchasing it from Best Buy. Instead I have to give money to Gamestop, which I don’t like doing.

P.S.:

“GameStop caters specifically to gamers, and it makes more sense for it to be an exclusive title there than at a place like Wal-Mart or Target.”

Since Gamestop caters to gamers, then wouldn’t it make sense for them to be the only place to have exclusives? Hopefully that would help sales of Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol 2.

i hate gamestop for life Says:

ugh, I’ll just buy it on ebay instead

Gerald Says:

Being that the ad was in an April issue, I’m a little that this Chaos Wars thing could be a joke.

Todoroki Says:

Chaos Wars features dual audio and should be out in May. I would definitely reccomend going for the original Japanese with English Subs tho.

Gerald Says:

It just got pushed back again to June 3rd. I doubt this game will ever come out.
