Capcom crushes Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition rumor

Sure, Resident Evil 4 has changed systems with two console ports. But, that doesn’t mean Capcom is doing it again even if a blurry screenshot suggests the possibility. The rumor about a PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 version of Resident Evil 4 seems to originate from a message board where an artist was supposedly working on box art for Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition.

If you got your hopes up prepare to be disappointed. No such game exists. Christian Svensson, Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development at Capcom, dissolves the rumor with these words, “No plans for RE4 on 360 or PS3 at this time.” Later Svensson clarifies his position with this message on the Capcom Message Boards:

I appreciate the passion that the community has for RE (especially for RE4). That said, I hate seeing people's expectations raised in some unwarranted fashion (and inevitably, I'm sure the Internet will spin it as something we've officially announced and subsequently delayed or cancelled when it doesn't show up :) ).

I'll stand by the third post I made in this thread. There are no current plans.

But if it makes you all happy, believe what you will. :)

I smell April fools somewhere.

When the rumor for Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition surfaced Capcom didn’t say yes or no. In this case Capcom is clearly saying, “no”.

The way I see it, if the rumor comes from an anonymous source and is accompanied by box art as “proof,” then it’s pretty safe to assume it isn’t true. We know that readily available software (such as Photoshop) allow home users to easily create fake box art and even fake screen shots. And when is the last time you remember box art to be the first piece of leaked information about an unannounced game? It always shows up on false game leaks because it’s the easiest thing to fake.
