Post Mario Party Hudson is beginning to leverage their classic franchises and WiiWare is a perfect place to do it. After all the Virtual Console is the primary source of legal and often neglected Turbo Grafx-16 games. In August, Japan gets an updated version of Alien Crush with online leaderboards. Worldwide leaderboards, which means we’re probably going to see it in North America. Hudson wouldn’t implement worldwide leaderboards unless they were thinking about releasing the game in places other than Japan.
Currently they are working on more than ten titles, we know about some of them like Tetris, Bomberman and now Blue Ocean. The latter is a fish tank simulator, which takes advantage of online weather data. Also the WiiWare version of Bomberman will have online play for up to eight players as the title seen in one of their slides.
If you’re in Japan or own a Japanese Wii here is what you can look forward to this year:
May: Star Soldier R
June: Wi-Fi 8 Person Battle Bomberman
July: Tetris (temporary name)
August: Alien Crush (temporary name)
2008: Blue Ocean
TBA: Joysound
BTW, here’s what may be (but not officially) the truth about Bomberman’s next game(s):
Apparently, the WiiWare game may be simply a standalone Multiplayer game that’s from the retail version, the retail version is the complete game with the story mode and such, but the WiiWare one is just the Multiplayer game.
It’s possible that owners of both games can fight one another like Bomberman Land Touch 2 and Bomberman Story DS’ Battle Pack 2. This is not confirmed by a very likely thing due to the games’ possibly being the same thing!
It’s a GENIUS idea, the WiiWare version is probably “ported” from the retail game and since it’s on the same hardware, nothing needs to be changed as far as code goes, and Hudson can get MEGA profit! :D
