Namco Bandai brought Mobile Suit Gundam: Operation Troy to E3 2006 and we haven’t seen much of the game since. I always found this silence awkward because I played it nearly two years ago. Unlike other Gundam games you aren’t limited to riding around in a mobile suit. You can run on foot as a member of the Federation, shoot Zeon soldiers with a rifle and commandeer abandoned Gundam.
The Xbox 360 game will arrive in Japan this year on June 26. On top of a campaign mode up to ten people can join a match play game via Xbox Live. This is being treated like a key feature and Namco Bandai is giving away trial gold membership codes with some packages with Gundam decals. Besides Coded Arms and Dirge of Cerberus I can’t think of many first person shooters developed in Japan. Perhaps, an iconic brand like Gundam will encourage gamers to give the genre a go.
@SomeDude - I’d wager on it. Namco Bandai USA hasn’t said anything official, but they brought it to E3 years ago. Also Japan’s Xbox division seems pleased because they released a separate press release announcing Operation Troy. I guess this is being considered as a major release there like Tales of Vesperia.
Spencer: Yeah, I remember seeing it at E3, but it was so quiet I figured they might just be trying to sneak it out in Japan (where the Gundam freaks live) and then scuttle a US release.
“this is being considered as a major release there like Tales of Vesperia.”
