How to beat Dragon Warrior

By Spencer . April 26, 2008 . 9:48am

Should I call the game by its proper name, Dragon Quest? Or should I go with the original title Dragon Warrior, which was used since the Dragon Quest trademark was owned by TSR at the time? In any case we’ve been talking a lot about Dragon Quest with trademark reveals, ESRB ratings and so forth recently.

Looking back Dragon Warrior on the Famicom seems simple, maybe even primitive by today’s class changing strategy RPGs. However, when it came out in North America Dragon Warrior was touted as a challenge. A fold out map and enemy chart were you companions on the quest to slay the Dragonlord. Have you beaten the original before?

If not or if you just want to reminisce take a look at this guide/review (1 / 2 / 3 / 4)that goes through the entire game. Here’s a clip of the end with the fight against the Dragonlord.

Always remember to say no to evil overlords asking to join forces. They’re just waiting for a chance to backstab you.

Classic. After this game, I was sold on RPGs for life.

Same as Dr. Slump. First RPG I ever played. I beat it at least 10 times. I recently beat the enhanced SNES version too. LOVE DQ FOR LIFE.

  • EvilAkito

I’ve attempted it many times, but I’ve never had the patients, unfortunately.

I have beat the Super Nintendo remake. Got fairly far in the original, both rom and cart. For the rom, the Floppy disk I kept the game on got corrupt, and the cart’s battery gave out.

I thought this game was the hardest thing in the world to beat when it came out. Then, about years later, when I got it for the GBC, I sat down and destroyed it in about 15 hours… No clue why I thought it was so difficult.
