Mega Man powers up, enters the mushroom kingdom

By Spencer . May 5, 2008 . 10:59am

Sitting in the USA archives of online downloadable content for Mega Man: Powered Up is a level entitled SMB World 1-1. The title pretty much says it all. Someone created the first level of Super Mario Brothers with the Mega Man Powered Up’s construction mode.

And it’s actually pretty good. Since you can’t hit blocks with your head the creator placed items like coins, now useless point orbs and mushrooms, represented by life power-ups, on top of blocks. The hidden 1up mushroom is in the stage too, but it isn’t placed in an invisible block. Take a look at the work in the video below and notice the clever use of the flag.

This isn’t the only Super Mario Brothers stage recreated with Mega Man: Powered Up's construction mode. Other users made levels 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4. Level 1-4 is notable because it strips Mega Man of his Mega Buster. You play as pre-powered up Mega Man who only has a kick attack and a single notch in your life bar. If you grab the life power up, placed where a mushroom used to be, you get a second hit. Clever rendition!

Wow, I’ll have to load up MM:PU tonight and download this. Thanks for tip Spencer!

It’s a shame that MM:PU and MM:MHX didn’t sell well enough to have Mega Man 2 and Mega Man X2 given the remake treatments. Mega Man 2 in particular… best game in the entire series.

I don’t know if it’s because of the youtube player or the encoding that person used; but rest assured that the game plays nowhere near this slow.

@Angelous (!) – Yeah , I really was hoping for Mega Man: Powered Up 2 with Air Man, Metal Man and so forth. The sales for both were disappointing.

@jeffx – I think it’s the encoding, but you are correct about the speed. Mega Man: Powered Up is no where this slow.

I think you meant Angelous for the above comment :)

I actually only played Irregular Hunter and skipped Powered Up. I just ordered the Jpn ver. Rockman Rockman after reading your earlier post. Do you know if this d/l would work or it needs to be the US version of the game?

I had no idea these games didn’t sell well here. Maybe it’s because the cheap-looking cover arts? It’s a pity, Irregular Hunter was one of the best earlier PSP games too.

  • nice find!

I always check your website, really good^^ but the name from this game is “Megaman Powered Up” and not “Powers up”.
I would like to know where to download other stages. I already beat the game long time ago.

@nice find! – Yeah, I’m aware of the name of the game that’s what the heading has Mega Man powers up, it’s a play on words of the title, Mega Man: Powered Up. You can get stages by selecting construction mode and connecting your PSP to the internet via infrastructure mode.

  • nice find!

thanks a lot for you help =) I didn’t knew that with the infrastructure mode. I guess I’ll check it out right now!

And about that “word game”… sorry, I was slow (got only 2 hours per day to sleep)

    Keep it up =)
