Soulcalibur “pillarboxed” for Xbox Live Arcade

By Spencer . May 15, 2008 . 11:07am

Supposedly, these screenshots from the Xbox 360 digital release of Soulcalibur “highlight the transition to the high definition era and fan favorite characters.” However, I can’t seem to find any good comparison images for a side by side comparison. On a quick glance it doesn’t look like anything is different. Perhaps, a sharp-eyed Siliconera reader can discern if anything has changed aside from the bland gray border.

James Says:

Don’t you mean pillarboxed?

ECM Says:

Yeah, it’s pillarboxed just like it was when it ran at 720p on the Xbox.

Spencer Says:

Alright, I guess “pillarboxed” is a better term. Let me update the post.

no problems here. i’m fine with pillarboxing. games should remain true to their original form. no reason to pull any 16:9 mods. there is only one potential problem i see. i want the ability to remove the borders. i hate when games require those stupid border images.
just in case you ever forget what game you’re playing, be sure to refer to the gray borders. there are reminders galore.nobody ever seemed to find it necessary when letterboxing, so i don’t see why they think it’s necessary in pillarboxing.

Andrew Yoon Says:

Hmm… I want this less now. SCIV will more than satiate my SC needs.

GoodEye Says:

I can see it’s sharper. That’s about it.
