Phantasy Star Portable data exchange: characters for Vivian

psu.jpgPhantasy Star Portable only has ad-hoc play. However, Phantasy Star Portable takes advantage of the PSP’s infrastructure mode to transfer characters from the PlayStation 2/PC versions of Phantasy Star Universe. Well, characters that have paid accounts and a proper PSU ID. However, character imports have a level cap of 20, a limit of 10,000 meseta and only retain equipped items. Regardless of limitations this is a novel feature.

On consoles, Sega will connect the PSP game with Phantasy Star Universe: The Ambition of the Illuminus through a series of downloadable missions. PlayStation 2 / PC users will get new missions with Vivian, a character introduced in Phantasy Star Portable. The PSP entry takes place in between the two console games (i.e. PSU and PSU: The Ambition of the Illuminus). So, Vivian should be older?

Japan gets a chance to play Phantasy Star Portable on July 31 and the game has not been announced for any other regions. It is unknown if the Vivian related missions will be released elsewhere and if Xbox 360 owners will get to play them in the future either.
