Windy X Windam brings classic 2D fighting to the DS

The Nintendo DS has fighting games like Jump Ultimate Stars, a fun romp on its own accord with easy to pick up controls. However, the DS doesn’t have traditional 2D fighting games like the King of Fighters where you have to memorize input commands like QCF + weak. Looking over Izuna’s command list in Windy X Windam, Success' game appears to be the latter.

Windy X Windam probably won't be the title to bring 2D fighting back to its glory days, but it's a step in the right direction for the Nintendo DS. While the portable system has been a home for "Everything" training and RPGs the fighting genre has been underrepresented. For that reason alone I’m quite curious to see what Ninja Studio is going to cook up.

But what’s up with Ashley? She looks like she went through the Soulcalibur implant program.

Seriously, how does she fight with those things?

BOOBS
that is all

Chow Says:

Good luck trying to get those motions to work on the NDS d-pad, though.
(not 90% impossible like the PSP phat d-pad, but more like 50% impossible on the NDS d-pad)

Yeah, hopefully it won’t be too picky about diagonals.

Moreover, how does she walk down an angular slope in those heels?

matty Says:

Man, those …things are practically on her neck.

What about Bleach DS and 2nd?

nika Says:

wow, boobs like that AND high heals? my my how impractical.
honestly who designs these sort of chara’s?

What about the DS Phat control pad? Better odds?

R Says:

I’m with Chris. Even with Shiren, I switched to using the R shoulder buttons because triggering the real diagonals was too inconsistent on a DS Lite. Playing a fighting game where precise execution of them is a requirement = no thanks.

Pichi — Supposedly the old DS’s d-pad was worse than the lite, but having never used one I obviously can’t confirm.

meikiyou Says:

what about the robot on the site that is a female pone or a male? in kanji is written shoujo robot but there is no boobs and if were any it is all show

Aoshi00 Says:

@meikiyou - The description says the robot is often mistaken as a girl for his cuteness and is popular among females.

Those controls look pretty demanding.. I need to use the R btn too when moving Izuna diagonally. I think the PSP lite’s D-pad is good though, I played Darkstalker Chronicles on it fine. I just became an Izuna fan recently by trying the whole rogue-like genre (never thought dying could be so fun), so her appearing in this game is kind of enticing :)

meikiyou Says:

i prefer ds lite d-pad as psp and ds phat, but i never played psp fighting games, and on ds it was bleach, thx aoshi my kanji is horrible i just read shoujo next to robot and thought that it could be a androgyn robot ecause it has the bottom body as girl and the upper as boy =.=

Pichi Says:

I found that I liked the DS Phat control pad over the DS Lite’s control pad, especially for diagonals. So I think I can deal with the input of the moves. Hope it doesn’t get too complicated.
