ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat spreads to North America

By Spencer . May 21, 2008 . 6:59am

ash.jpgI thought all hope was lost for Archaic Sealed Heat (aka ASH, aka that Mistwalker game on the Nintendo DS) since it didn’t fare well in Japan. The ESRB says otherwise with an update listing ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat with an “E 10+” rating.

So we’re probably getting the Nintendo DS strategy RPG. Nintendo just hasn’t said anything about it. Their summer release schedule looks bare at this point so perhaps we will see ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat then? E3 is just around the corner and Nintendo will probably give it a concrete date then.

Yeah? Nay? (I think the Dragon Quest IV – VI unofficial announcement is probably going to steal ASH’s thunder…)

Honestly, the name just kills me. I can almost hear the early development meetings: “I am soooo hammered right now! Quick, somebody get me a blindfold and a dictionary! Archaic…Sealed…Heat? Sounds good to mBAARF.” I mean, I love ya, Gooch, but give me something I can work with here. (And I get 20 bucks if the sequel is called Battle Agility Actuator Resistance Force.)

Looking at RPG and SRPG sales in japan they all should be released in the west as they will do in par or better here which lead to make them reasonably profitable projects even some of them can be a hit.

I really don’t get why this game was so ill received in Jpn (on sale for less than $20 only 2 months after its release). I mean it wasn’t perfect but I really had fun w/ this game. I think this title deserves a full-blown sequel on a console, I was really taken w/ the story. Personally I would be more excited about an ASH sequel compared to Blue Dragon’s lackluster story.

I don’t think it would be as fun playing it the 2nd time around, but I’m rooting for an English release too.

Yay! Since I don’t know a lick of Japanese, I’m glad that publishers in the states are giving it a chance here.

Very glad to hear it! I was losing hope. So come on, press release!

  • Puru

Well now I’m glad I never got past the first stage in the Japanese game or else it would seem old to me now.

I hope it gets confirmed…I´m interested in trying this one, as well as Soma Bringer.
