Arika continues work on Ketsui DS

kds.jpgSometime before 5bp announced they were bringing Ketsui to the Xbox 360, Arika (side note: this is the same company who developed Dr. Mario Online Rx and Forever Blue) announced a DS version of the Cave shoot ‘em up. Not much information has come out beyond the initial announcement, but Ketsui Death Label is well into in development.

Ketsui puts players inside a helicopter with floating gunpods. Take your pick between the Tiger Schewert (spread shot / slow movement) and the Panzer Jager (straight shot / faster movement) for the single player mode. Once you beat the Ketsui Death Label in a single credit you can film the achievement and send it to another DS owner to watch wirelessly. Ketsui Death Level also includes game sharing, which allows distribution of a trial version of the game.

Other new features besides wireless communication include: a versus model, a training mode and unlockable Evac Reports. There’s the full arcade game in Ketsui Death Label too and a DVD with a power play of the game. This sounds like a sweet package, if it’s the right price. Arika has not announced how much the game will cost. However, we should know well before October 23, the day Ketsui Death Label arrives in Japan. At this time there aren’t any announced plans to bring Ketsui outside of Japan.

Finally, I’ve been waiting for some signs of life from this game. Thanks for the report.

I will probably buy the hell out of this when it drops, DSL’s unfortunate d-pad or no. Arika’s ports (…well, this isn’t exactly a port per se) have always been well worth the money spent.

FYI, Spencer—it’s Death Label, not Death Level. Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou’s “boss rush” was subtitled “Death Label” as well.

  • So, is the game coming out in Japan only or in North America as well? Your last two sentences confuse me. I’ll get this game either way, I just want to know if I should order from Play-Asia or what.

Amazing news anyway, this game has been on my “must-buy” list ever since I first heard about it (can’t remember where). The special DVD sure is a nice bonus, too.

  • I’m still amazed that they were able to put something like this on the DS. How will they handle bullets in the gap, though?

  • @R – Thanks for the correction. I’ll update this accordingly with Death Label instead of Level :)

@CRIMExTHINK – No I meant Japan, it’s only announced there at the moment.

  • @ James A Call Well III –

They won’t. The game only uses the bottom or top screen for display – not both. The other screen will be used to keep track of your box counter, score, and other little details.
