If you guys have been paying attention to the news this week you'd know that there is finally a Beyond Good and Evil sequel in the works. It still needs to be green-lit by Ubisoft but I see it being officially announced in the near future. My favorite genre happens to be the adventure game: the perfect blend of exploration, action-oriented combat systems, puzzles, story, and RPG elements. BG&E is one of the best examples of the genre and it sorely needs a sequel, especially with that cliff-hanger ending. I even liked the game better than Wind Waker, which didn't come out long before. I'm really glad this is one of those titles that hardcore gamers have really whined about enough to get the developer's attention. This game is, though, one of a few that I'd like to see more of.
Another on my list is actually one you'd probably wouldn't guess. One of my favorite games of last generation was Stubbs the Zombie. Yeah, that's right. As much as I love RPG's and Adventure games, there's nothing like something new that plays around with a bunch of genres. Stubbs was built on the Halo Engine and, despite it not really being a shooter, really felt like Halo but with some really vibrant personality. The exploding organs that you threw were pretty much the same as the plasma grenades we know and love and the vehicles felt exactly the same. However, there were some awesome aspects of the game that really appealed to me. First of all, I love being an anti-hero as it really mixes up how the protagonist fits into the story. And let me tell you that leading an entire pack of zombies that bite humans and create more zombies (as the screams of the victims fill the air) is one of the most amazing things you can ever experience. Oh, and the loading screens were some of the most memorable of any game as zombies quietly moan and as the status bar advances they get louder and louder and start yelling "BRAAAAAAINNNNNNSSSS." It makes my tummy rumble just thinking about it. This game needs a sequel fast, built on the Halo 3 engine and with an online co-op component.
My last title should be no surprise to anyone. My favorite RPG of all time is of course SKIES OF ARCADIA. The main character is my namesake and it is one of the most underrated works of art even among the most hardcore gamers. No matter how many times I've started this game up, I've never gotten bored with it. It has one of the most delightful casts of characters (including a non-silent protagonist, thank you!), a great battle system that revolves around you saving up spirit to perform special moves (PIRATE'S WRATH!!), and a world that was fun to explore and was much different than the shires of your average medieval-era role-player. Then there are the ship battles! This game was not content with having just one type of battle so it threw an entire other one right at you that forced you to use strategy to defeat other air ships and giant monsters. I can go on and on about this game but you should really look around for a copy of it for the Game Cube and give it a whirl in your Wii so you know what I'm talking about. There's a lot of buzz about a sequel to this game and now with Vyse and Aika showing up in Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3, I can only hope that someday I'll get the sequel I most want more than any other. I've been burned by rumors of Skies 2 so many times before so I won't get my hopes up, but I'll be watching for it and you'll be darn sure I'll say something the minute I see that leaked screenshot or press release from Sega.
What games do you want sequels to? Comment with your hopeful titles and why!

How anyone like Beyond Good and Evil more than Wind Waker? the art, designs and setting alone make Wind Waker years ahead of BGaE I encourage you to give WW another play through,BTW the characters design in BGaE is horrid, and I agree that Skies of Arcadia is the best RPG ever and its my best game ever.
For me it’s:
Shenmue (Can we please just get an ending?! PLEASE?)
Star Control (3 never existed.)
X-Wing vs. Anything (Come on.)
MechWarrior
Crimson Skies
Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders
Wing Commander
Descent: Freespace
Arcanum
Fallout (Once again, 3 doesn’t count.)
Shadowrun
Chrono Trigger/Cross and Eternal Darkness would be my picks. Oh man, Eternal Darkness was awesome, and seeing a new one on any system would be just great. It’s just unfortunate that Silicon Knights is so caught up with Too Human and its endless development cycle. At this rate I’ll be roughly eighty when they’re done with THAT trilogy.
Also, why do all these Fallout people say that 3 doesn’t count? It’s not even out yet, how can you pass judgement? I can certainly understand that a sequel has to recapture the magic of previous entries, but if you want the exact same experience, surely it would be better just to replay the old ones, rather than hold out for them to meet some bizarre, ridiculously subjective set of criteria for their game.
I vote no more sequels! Completely original games for everyone! Woooo!
That, or a new Bubble Bobble that’s actually developed by Taito with the same love and care as the originals…
Okay, I have to let you know that I love Zelda. Even though Metroid is my favorite series ever, Zelda is my second. Wind Waker is a great game and I defend it a lot. However, Beyond Good and Evil was just a better experience for me. I feel like they had a lot of the same elements and BG&E did them better. It was an original property and I loved it’s futuristic fastasy-like setting. Sometimes a game just hits the spot for people that one definitely did it for me.
I’m hoping for a new Panzer Dragoon game, a new Suikoden to come out, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Xenosaga series. I’m sure I’ve not scratched the surface, but these games are what I really would like to see.
I would love to see a new Chrono game…Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time. A new Super Mario RPG by Square-Enix would be great too. And I´m still waiting to see if Capcom makes a new Megaman (original)…although I would only want a new one if it´s 2D (preferably on a home console, with high resolution sprites) and not SD (with a similar style to it´s predecessors).
Besides that, I must say that I don´t think that every great game needs to have a sequel…(which seems to be the case nowadays, at least with commercially successful ones). Sometimes it´s just better to leave the game alone and create another ip with similar elements instead of expanding a game that was a “complete” experience by itself… Or, if you have to create a franchise of it, make an unrelated “sequel” (like Final Fantasy for example).
I can´t give an opinion about those 3 games you mentioned because I haven´t played them yet, but I´m definitely interested in playing Skies of Arcadia, and I think I will eventually…
I never got to finish Skies of Arcadia either, I picked it up for Dreamcast before, but by that time the system was a bit obsolete. So I would need to dig out the system if I want to play it. Getting it on the GC and play it on the Wii is definitely another option.
I shared w/ some of the sentiments above, as impossible as it seems, I definitely want Shenmue 3, considering I bought the original Xbox to play Shenmue 2 after they canned the DC version, and Panzer Dragoon Orta (right now Castle of Shikigami III on the Wii is kicking my butt..)
The one sequel I really want is Chrono Trigger as well, it’s still the best RPG for me, more so than any other FF. Blue Dragon got my hopes up as the spiritual successor of Trigger, but ultimately let me down, not that it was bad..
Other than that, I kind of want to see a sequel to Archaic Sealed Heat, even though it’s a relatively new game, I feel that the scope of that game was restricted by the DS platform, it could’ve been so much more.
dancinbojangles: It’s not a “ridiculously subjective” set of criteria. The combat has to be the same. That’s not ridiculously subjective, it’s expected. When Ratchet & Clank changed up gameplay formats, they didn’t call the game “Ratchet and Clank 4″, they came up with a new name for it. That way people who liked the IP for the IP would still buy it, but people who liked the gameplay would know that it was an entirely different game.
In any RPG, combat is 50% or more of the game. Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 had some of the best combat I’ve ever experienced in an RPG. The variety of things you could reasonably do in combat was staggering, and it made the game a joy to go through.
Oblivion’s combat did not fill me with joy.
Fallout 3’s combat will not be the same as Fallout 1-2, and everywhere I’ve seen previews of the game written up prove that to be so. That is why it “does not count”. In order for me to see it as a true sequel, the combat from teh first two games needs to be present.
I’m just sayin’, maybe best to sample a little bit of the dark side before writing it off completely. Maybe you’ll like it.
Shenmue
Skies of Arcadia
Panzer Dragoon
Jet Set Radio
yes I’m a Sega fan!
dancinbojangles: If I do play it and like it, it’ll be a separate entity to me is what I’m saying, like what Descent: Freespace is to Descent.
Shenmue
Chrono series
Golden Sun
Skies of Arcadia
Panzer Dragoon
Tales of Symphonia prequel (with good graphics, and new assets not the crap Namco is pulling now)
No More Heroes 2
God Hand 2
I’d buy those (hopefully for the Wii)

Nightmare of Druaga sequel. Not even joking. It is the best roguelike on earth and I spent hundreds of hours playing it. I’m still shocked that it even got an English version, given that it probably sold less than 1000 copies. I’m with you on a Skies of Arcadia sequel, as well, but I’ve got a feeling it will happen sooner or later. On the SHMUP front, I know Raiden IV got a (Japanese) arcade release but until it gets a console port, I will never get to play it. Finally, I need to look for sailors at least once more in my life.
