Ghost Stories haunt the Nintendo DS this July

Compile Heart picked up the license to Gakkou no Kwaidan, better known as Ghost Stories in North America, and they are developing a Nintendo DS game based on the anime series. It looks like Gakkou no Kwaidan DS plays like an adventure game where you investigate, chat and respond to other characters by making choices with the touch screen. The overall goal is find a missing friend by exploring an elementary school.

The game stars young kids so it won’t be “scary” in the same way Dementium or Nanashi no Game is. However, this premise is exactly what makes Gakkou no Kwaidan interesting! Gakkou no Kwaidan DS is like a horror adventure game for the tween and under demographic. While somewhat unique, Gakkou no Kwaidan probably won't get an international release despite ADV licensing the anime series.
